I guess I wouldn't blame Cole Hamels if he really wants to be traded and get in on a once in a lifetime $200 million dollar party. After all, he achieved a championship in 2008 with the Phillies at 24 so he's done it all. He was 14-10, 3.09 that year, and went 4–0, 1.80 ERA, 30 K in the postseason and was named the series MVP. A California guy, 31 this month, maybe a change of scenery is something he's lusting for, with a real winner in 2015. I don't want to see him go but if he goes, we better get some young proven players and not any over the hill Sizemore or AJ clones, or can't-miss hopeless cases that the front office boobs misjudge.
If we keep Hamels, it means the Phils are gambling that the IFs on this team, i.e., Byrd, Brown, Asche, Lee, and perhaps a platooned Howard, even Franco, will make significant improvements over 2014. It's a risk but I can live with that for another year. I still think the Phils would be dopes to trade a 2.46, 25 QS pitcher (and 25 potential wins) with no other heavy weights on the horizon.
