Half of the Defense didn't sport their blackshirts today

So this Blackshirt thing, which is already goofy as hell, just became even goofier.

Coaches gave the players the personal choice on whether or not to wear their Blackshirts in practice.

The following felt undeserving and dressed in white: Gregory, Valentine, Collins, Cooper, Williams, McMullen, and Davie.

The following felt Blackshirt worthy I guess: Anderson, Gerry, Rose, Roach, Santos, Cockrell, Kalu, and Mitchell.

Who cares? They mean nothing. They are jerseys. Maybe we should get reports on who eats green beans and who eats peas at the training table.

I prefer peas, but won't turn down green beans.... of course, I don't often turn down food of any kind.

I think it also shows the lack of comprehension on the meaning of the black shirt idea to begin with. And that goes for the Def. Cor. as well. The defense wasn't really on the field was it? I mean they were physically there but did very little to represent the black shirt concept. As such Poopsalot should have taken them from the whole team.

What it means is this. You are a starter on the defense. Period. That is what they were originally there for. They are just practice jersey's that make you distinguishable from the offense and easier to see for the coaches.
Everything else is what others make them out to be. If a player doesn't think he deserves to wear it, then give it to someone else.

To me, having played many a sports in my lifetime, you make decisions as a whole.

When I see the entire DL plus a couple others decide to not wear their shirt, and then the rest of the Defense is like "fuck that.....I think this thing looks cool, I'm wearing mine....".......that tells me that the entire unit is not making decisions as a whole.

It just has written all over it.

I would hope your use of the term starter would mean you deserved them by the work you did to achieve a blackshirt. Having said that, if you played like a rag tag bunch of fifth grade Pop Warner players, then they shouldn't be able to keep the blackshirts.
