Simple, is the 2016-17 Golden State Warriors the best team on paper in the history of the NBA?

Why? If not, who tops this team?

On paper Shaq, Kobe, Karl Malone and Gary Payton looked just as good. So did Kobe, Gasol, Dwight and Nash.

We all know how that worked out :pout:

Not even close. Malone was 40 years old and Payton was far past his best days. I am not even touching your other example, because they were not even the consensus pick to win the title in their own time. They were viewed as a team who could contend, but again, was counting on aging stars.

I am not going to compare this Warrior team to all time greats without seeing them on the court, but the potential is there. Those teams you mentioned were not nearly as strong as this one on paper. I am sure they will be vastly superior in reality too.

The 85 Celtics were all in their prime, excluding Walton. Probably the best comparison out there

Cavs, plus they lost a lot pieces, who knows how everyone fits together...we already know the cavs will be there and probably better than last year....they had a lot of changes last year mid way through the season from coach, to players....

Nope. Payton and Malone were way pas their prime. Dwight is a headcase and Nash was past his prime. These players are ALL in their prime.

The Cavs at the beginning of the season had the core their still but they made moves halfway through the season which made them much better, they could do the same this year. That's why the first half the season really doesn't mean that much.

The core is strong but the depth is not nearly what it has been the last 2 years. Interested to see how it plays out and if it makes the core play MORE minutes then in the past bc the bench in the past usually would just add to the lead the starters got. It could be the opposite and put more pressure on the starters, which shouldn't be too much of a problem lol

Has any team ever had the following on the same team:

1 all NBA 1st teamer
2 all NBA 2nd teamers
1 all NBA 3rd teamer

My guess would be no. Golden State essentially has 4 of the top 15 players in the league and two of the top 3 players in the league.

The 84-85 Lakers would make a good argument. That team had Magic, Worthy in his 3rd year, Kareem who was still a force, Jamaal Wilkes who was in his late 20's, Michael Cooper who was one of the best defensive players in the 80's, and Bob McAdoo later in his career.
