Let me guess Callahan made Rich Gannon throw 5 ints in that game? 2 for touchdowns?

Or was he in on the sabotage?

Yeah, I don't believe Callahan let Gruden win that SB at all.

Way too much riding on the line for an unproven coach who could have proved a lot after that game.

Way too many players involved to get them to "throw" the game.

I don't by it at all.

Do I think Callahan was a good coach? No! Maybe they didn't agree with his game plan, maybe it was an excuse for why they lost. Maybe they were bitter their HC left them right before a SB run and beat them with another team?

But I don't believe Callahan just let another coach win a SB because they were good friends.
That sounds like something out of the grade schoolers mouth. The Raiders have had issues with Tim Brown since he retired from them and this has been one that has come up with Brown quite often since.

The NFL MVP threw 5 INTS? You don't find that a little odd.

That was John Lynch saying they knew the audible calls of Gannon. He also said the Raiders did not run one single play in the game that the Bucs did not practice that week.

I think you're forgetting how great that defense was.

The Raiders lost a Super Bowl.. Bronco fans should be the last ones trying to argue to cover it up.

The better team won that year.

Sounds to me like the Buccaneers prepared well and out played the Raiders.

The better team, better coached team won the game.

I don't think there is any argument that Callahan wasn't a good coach, he inherited a great team. This wasn't David vs Goliath here and Goliath threw the game... The better team won.

That being said I still think Gruden is an overrated coach and a terrible analyst. Tony Dungy had a heck of a team he built with a terrific defense, a good run game and a smart QB who didn't turn the ball over.

"Yeah, that's right. I'm back, bitches!"

"Oh, you mean I have to actually coach the Raiders into significance? Well, that's a pretty tall order".

Being stupid enough to not change up an offense is a lot different than intentionally throwing the game. Heck, I remember being the only person in my circle of friends back then predicting that TB would win in a blowout. It was pretty obvious Callahan didn't change much after Gruden's departure, and I figured the TB defense would tee off on Gannon.

It played quite similarly to the Denver-Seattle SB. There were Seattle defenders claiming they knew Manning's tells and as a result knew what he would do before the ball was snapped. The result was ugly.

Speaking of that SB I’d much rather lose a blowout like Denver did than a heartbreaker at the end like Seattle or choke away a huge lead like Atlanta. At least with us it just wasn’t our day.

I have mixed feelings about this. To get to the SB then phone it in the way they did was unforgivable. They absolutely could have beat that Seahawks team but went into the game unprepared and having a few head scratching decisions along the way. Like leaving the IR players in Denver the first week, a move that didn't sit well with the players. Then changing hotels and of course practicing without noise. Maybe the Broncos show up and the Seahawks gut out a tough win anyway. So be it. But it took negligence on the part of the Broncos coaching staff to get us the result of that ugly game. The Broncos winning with a new coach and vastly restyled team as a heavy underdog has eased a lot of that frustration but not all of it.

I can't believe the Raiders didn't - at least - interview a couple of guys - plus Gruden. I hope they get whacked hard.

Maybe they will get stripped of a draft pick for not fulfilling the Rooney rule. :)

The last team to be found in violation of the Rooney rule got fined $200,000. The NFL seems to be more willing to take Draft Picks from teams though as they know money like $200,000 means very little in the grand scheme of things. So I would say at least they will get fined $300,000 as inflation since the last violation has obviously increased.

Not sure what Reid is like as an analyst.

To me Reid is a good coach, not a great coach.

Hard to argue as the guy has struggled to do much in the biggest games. In fact has two of the worst playoff losses in NFL history in allowing another team to come back and win. He has some major faults as a coach for sure. He does some great things, but can't ignore his weaknesses as they show up at the worst possible moments.

Some retired players have been speaking up warning against Gruden a bit. Talked about his intensity and the fact that it is pretty much his way or the highway. Not many coaches can get away with that mindset these days as the young folks coming into the league are very different than say 10 years ago.

That will only be a problem if the Raiders don't start winning. Give him 2018 as a honeymoon year so a 6-10 finish would likely be forgiven. But they're going to want to see playoff wins and fast and a move to Vegas isn't going to be a good enough reason to mitigate a lack of performance. If Gruden doesn't lead the team to playoff wins then you're probably right: his style runs the risk of not resonating with younger players.

I honestly don't know what to expect. Teams can recreate themselves in a single offseason especially when they change the HC. But a 10 year deal...that's a lot of faith. I wonder how long his leash will be if the Raiders miss the playoffs this year and next.

Yeah- We have come to a time where the NFL is more of a players coach type of game. Gruden really went downhill from the Tony Dungy led Super Bowl team...

I'm just not as sure as Raiders fans are that this is a "GREAT" hire. Only time will tell.

Gruden is not going to win anyone over with his offensive prowess
His teams were mediocre for most of his seasons
Can he get the best out of Carr is really a primary goal
And for everyone concerned about Cousin and Von on the same team
How about Mack and Carr. Both together will be paid soon

Gruden looks very comfortable in a sweater. That's all I've got.

Derek Carr has to play much better then this year before he gets "paid"

But yeah don't be shy about paying top notch pass rushers and QB's if you got em.
