Cardinals to interview Jay Gruden | ProFootballTalk

I could see them hiring him. He'd probably come cheap which would be important to the Bidwell family.

I wonder if he'll continue to employ the game plan that ignores his all-pro receiver for the first half. Fitzy must be ecstatic.

BTW -- I wouldn't be disappointed to have Hue Jackson as the OC.

I think Gruden's scheme is better, but Hue is more creative. But unless he changes the scheme, not sure Dalton is a fit for it.

He'd certainly ask Dalton to push it down field more - Something he hasn't been capable of doing with any sort of consistency. So I can see the concern.... I do think he would fix our broken running game and provide more opportunities for AJ.

AJ had 97 catches for 1350 yards and like 12 TD's or something like that. How many more opportunities does he need without making him the only focus on offense?

I think he was alluding to big play opportunities. Watch Brandon Marshall, Megatron, Boldin and Torrey Smith, etc. All are threats to score from deep anywhere on the field, any play. Dalton can't throw the ball more than 20 yards accurately, so it totally eliminates that part of the game, forcing guys like AJ to work even harder.

^^This.

I don't like that we go entire games without testing AJ down the field. Yes I know they roll coverage his ways. Plenty of coordinators figure out ways around it.

He is the only focus of the offense anyway. Making it hard to believe that we ignore him at key moments.

We go deep to AJ almost 2 to 3 times a game it seems like. Whether Dalton can hit him is another story, but the opportunities are there. Just saying.

AJ doesn't need to be focused on anymore, the OC and coach have to figure out a way to eliminate AJ as the only offensive focus, and involve more guys in the offense. Don't ignore AJ like the first half of the playoff game for F sakes, but get that ball spread around a little more efficiently. If AJ is the only guy ever goign to go deep, then it seems pretty easy to slide the safety coverage towards AJ's side of the field.

Mix it up, get a guy like Marcus Davis from Virginia Tech to pull some coverage off AJ on the other side. You have another guy opposite AJ who is 6'4" / 232 / and runs a 4.45 - 40, he is going to demand attention even if he is not catching 100 balls a season like AJ.

We have to do a better job of using the RB out of the backfield, not allowing DL to rush so hard, and keeping LB's reading and flat footed in the middle of the field a little more.

Dalton, Gresham and Maualuga cost us this football game. There is zero reason Dalton should have thrown that ball on 4th and 11 that ended our last drive SHORT of the sticks. I know the defense is covering that line marker more stiff and allowing stuff underneath, but you have to give your team a chance and get the ball to the sticks even if it is incomplete. And for fuck sakes, do not throw the ball to Gresham on a critical play.

I actually have no problem with the play call. A well-thrown pass there would have secured the first down. If he hit Jones in stride he would have run right by the corner that had to come up. He threw it low and didn't allow his receiver to make a play.

I obviously have a bad memory then, because I thought Jones ran like a button hook towards the middle of the field like 5 yards short of the sticks. If not, I am not remembering the play well. I must have been in one of my blind fury stages then where shit around my house was breaking and neighbors were calling the cops for the loud foul language coming out of my house.

I think he was running about a 6 yard out.

They're also a lot more big-bodied than AJ. Not saying the Bengals don't need to do more with AJ, but the big bodies help those other guys shield defenders and get separation in the middle of the field.
