I'm not sure I would term his the best, I guess its how you define it. But would you say that he was the most valuable? If not him, then whom?

The entire offensive line without whom he gets crushed!

I like the hire. Has experience in being a 3-4 d coordinator. Now get him some players. Brandon Williams NT and Hightower ILB are the two on my wishlist.

Speedier, headhunters at every linebacker spot wouldn't hurt either (not just ILB)

Manusky would not have been my choice, you're right about that. At the same time though think about what Phillips said. The defense has an overall lack of talent. Add in what you say (and I agree with you again) the Redskins are a bad organization.

Put those two things together and why would a Def Co with a great/good/solid reputation and record want to come to DC? There's no benefit to it and the only thing that could possibly appeal to a great/good Def Co. Is taking a low talented outfit like the Skins defense and turning it around. But that's where the bad organization rears its ugly head again particularly with Snyder.

Once the Def Co identifies what needs to be addressed - will he be given the resources to fix it? Wil he be part of the decision making process? Will Snyder, Allen and maybe even Scotty Mac support him, not support him or worse yet, undermine him?

The answer to this question will begin to come in free agency and April's draft. If this draft comes close to mirroring the last one we will all have that answer.

If we don't go heavy in free agency going after defensive players Jay Gruden and Scot McCloughan are done here because the team will suck next season plain and simple

Likely, but I'm not sure that the conversations being made in Ashburn aren't related to longer terms on this rebuild. Could it be that instead of the conventional 3-5 year rebuild we are actually looking at a 4-6 year project? I'm fairly confident in suggesting that when Scott arrived and took a look inside, and the work required, his very first impression had to be Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttt-ta!!!:pound:

Back to back winning seasons and one missed chip shot field goal from back to back playoffs. 2 years ago we had the 5th pick in the draft. I'd say the rebuild is well under way.

Whatever you say chief - your knowledge of football is amazing. Did you actually watch the NFC playoffs over the past several weeks? With the exception of the Falcons I would say that pretty much no team played defense in those games & those were the top teams in the NFC. This isn't the 80s or 90s. A team can't expect to be top notch on both offense and defense. They have to pick their spots.

For the Redskins this means continuing to build the offense (signing KC is key in spite of what some folks state in this forum). They just need to somewhat improve their defense to really be able to make a serious run. This means adding a few FAs and using the draft to pickup defenders while continuing to develop the current young defenders on the team. Why in the hell do they need to "go heavy in free agency"? Jeez - do you have the worst memory in the world? Do you not remember how this approach has previously blown up in their face?

I think that this team should be fine. If you don't think so - great - really couldn't care less. HTTR

I have said a handful of times that Pettine, Pagano or Thurmond would have been better picks. You don't know if Phillip wasn't going to come here. He agreed to an interview and then got the offer from the Rams. Sources state that we was weighing the two options and went with the Rams due to the lack of talent here in DC.

I understand that Gruden liked Manusky and that is the problem. You go with the better talent, not your friend.

I think those guys are basically the same and Manusky gets the edge b/c he is already here. With adding more talent in FA and the draft we should be fine. Plus I like that Gruden is calling plays. McVay did not dominate as a play caller and I seen Gruden on the sidelines step in many times. Im satisfied with the coaching right now.

It's as much the quarterbacks responsibility to avoid sacks as his line. Kirk has a good line in front of him but he's makes them look good to by getting rid of the ball quickly.

Bryan Frye’s QB Series: Part 1 – Upright Citizens (Quarterbacks who Avoided Sacks)

Yeah how many times did we see the sack totals from Cousins and Griffin that showed a clear pattern. Their protection is better, no doubt, but he also is making the right reads and getting rid of the ball quickly.

I think Trent may be our best player but Kirk is on the short list for sure.

The Los Angeles Rams' hire of Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator was met with a lot of acclaim. That was understandable, as Phillips' defense led the Broncos to a Super Bowl victory a year ago. Many criticized the Broncos for allowing Phillips to leave with the transition to Vance Joseph. Sources with the Broncos, however, say that Phillips divided the locker room and pitted the defense against the offense. The divided locker room was toxic at the end of the season, and that was why the Broncos felt they would be better off to have Phillips depart. Sources in Houston say that Phillips stirred up some similar problems in the Texans' locker room during the 2013 season, but not to the same extent as in Denver last season.

LOL - I am good with the moves, but jeez Larry Michael is such a brown noser & just goes overboard by saying how much he loves all of these moves (I thought that he might even have gone crazy about the new strength coach).
yeah its a puff piece for sure

Wow so this article is trying to analyze promoting Manusky to defensive coordinator and why it was the right move but then ends the article with this quote: "In nine seasons as a coordinator, Manusky has never overseen a top-10 defense. His units on average have ranked 18th in total defense and 17th in points allowed. One of his best seasons came in 2014, when the Colts’ defense ranked 11th in the league in total defense, and another came in 2009, when his 49ers unit ranked fourth in the NFL in points allowed."

Redskins counting on Greg Manusky’s familiarity and fiery personality to ignite defense

Yep great way to go out making us believe this was the right hire. Well you know what they say, third times the charm.
