Bright side, he knows the players we have and hopefully has identified what he needs to fix this defense.

Dark side... another year of the 3-4 defense in DC.

Twist side... means that they are likely going to go heavy and hard on the defense this year..

Im not sure I see the problem with the 3-4. Not that I love it but I dont know that either D is better than the other.

I think anyone would common sense would want to keep their job. Are you implying that Gruden basically wants the entire organization to fail so he is sabotaging the team with an incompetent DC because he doesn't want to look over his shoulder?

No, 1 Cousins doesn't equal 3 bad DC. The bottom line is that we are as successful as he have been because of Cousins. IF we could replace him with a QB of equal or better value...lets do it! But once again, some of you don't understand that good QBs don't grow on trees. Why are we so anxious to get rid of the best player on our team.

Woah Woah Woah. Kirk Cousins is the best player on our team??

Because if we sign Cousins to a long term deal, that officially takes us out of the hunt for the next Rogers/Wilson/Prescott/Insert more exciting Rookie QB Name here.

We can either settle for a pretty good QB who is in the mold of Alex Smith/Andy Dalton.... or keep chasing elite. You cant do both.

I have 2 problems with this. 1 - I dont want Alex Smith or Andy Dalton. If thats what Cousins really is then yea we should take what we can get for him and move on.

2 - I think they should resign Cousins AND still look for an upgrade (or as you call it the next rodgers). Doesnt mean you ever follow through or that you need too. But I dont think just because you resign a guy means you shouldnt keep looking for a franchise changing player.

I'm not sure I would term his the best, I guess its how you define it. But would you say that he was the most valuable? If not him, then whom?

Hmmm. Most valuable does make it more interesting. But without a doubt Trent, Reed, Norman, Kerrigan, and DJax are better players. I think you can easily argue Garcon, Crowder, and Scherff are too.

The problem in our case is we dont and have never actually had the horses to run it effectively. Aside from that, if you got the players and the right coach, its a great scheme.

I just dont think we have the horses to run the 4-3 either lol. We dont have any horses.

Thing that seems to be missed here is that if the Alex Smith/Andy Dalton is the worst Kirk levels out at, its beter than constantly chasing the Rogers and ending up with the RG3.

2- Because we have Cousins does not mean we stop looking for the next Rogers. But it does mean we are not so willing to do stupid shit to try and force finding that guy.

The players we do have are a better fit in a 4-3 over a 3-4.

I agree with you on the last part. We wouldnt be trading 3 firsts for a hot shot rookie. We'd just keep our options open and our eyes peeled (I hope).

Disagree with you on the first part. Id rather chase after "the next rodgers" then roll with Alex Smith.

When you are constantly chasing the next elite QB, you lend yourself to making moves like trading half a draft for the next hot rookie QB. IM sure you have realized this.

I like the hire. Has experience in being a 3-4 d coordinator. Now get him some players. Brandon Williams NT and Hightower ILB are the two on my wishlist.

Im not sure I buy that but Im willing to be convinced.

We currently lack a NT. The only guy we have capable of playing DE at a starting level (Baker) would actually be more effective as a DT in a 4-3.

Kerrigan and Murphy would be better fits at DE in a 4-3, or at minimum would be just as productive.

Yes we would need LBs across the board, but I think Smith and Compton could fill in while we look for the uber stud. Meaning we need one more starting LB assuming Gallett cant be the other starting OLB.

At corner we SHOULD be solid in either scheme. And either way we are going to need a FS assuming Cravens can play SS for us.

Bottom line for the 3-4 we need two D-lineman, a Safety and two Inside LBs because i dont think Compton is a good fit as a 3-4 ILB.

Just because you want an elite QB doesnt mean you should make stupid trades. One does not require the other. But having Alex Smith as your QB isnt a very good thing, I know that.

The problem is, thats ALL we have done. And people are already hinting or out right saying we should deal Kirk and make a play for Darnold next year. NOw if Darnold is held in as high a regard come draft time 2018 as he is now... the only way we get him is to

1. Totally suck this year and EARN that #1 over all pick.

2. Pull another RG3 trade.

So? IM not saying that. Wanting an elite QB or franchise QB or whatever you want to call it doesnt require stupidly managing a team.

Do you realize the number of Rodgers that have played in the league? Ever?

The number is 1. Thats it. I think Rodgers is the best QB to ever play.

But Im not the one saying we should chase the next Rodgers. Thats the term Shark likes to throw around to try and paint that as what anyone who doesnt bow down to the shrine of Cousins wants.

Fair enough. So who in today's game would you be satisfied with as our QB besides Rodgers (and i'll assume Brady)?
