lol at T lance not responding to zone defenses played during MJ era

Maybe cause he knows they were played whether illegal or not, we know they implemented the 3 second rule since, correct?

And, some of the shite you guys post makes no sense

If the game today is get ball up as quick as you can, pass up an easy 2 for a 3 , how is it easier to guard a slasher?

They implemented the 3 second rule at the same time they allowed zone defenses precisely because they didn’t want guys just packing the lane not guarding anyone. This was the 2001-02 season.

I don’t have to respond to stupid posts.

Zone defense was illegal in the NBA until 2002.

Nobody played zone back then.

Help defenders could not be in the lane unless within arms length of their man. They also could not be below the free throw line if their man was above the free throw line.

Today you can load to the ball in help. Could not do that before the rule change.

And you couldn't double or cheat off the ball to prevent a guy from catching it

That's a huge one no one ever brings up

Because when you're dealing with an elite athlete stopping him from getting the ball os probably more vital than what you do after he's got

After he's got it you're already cooked

You need to do some more research

Exactly.

Was watching old clips breaking down the rule. Some of the spacing you would see back then to take advantage was absolutely stupid.

Saw an ISO play with the Jazz where they had Stockton and Malone on the strong side FT line extended and the other 3 players were standing above the 3 point line on the right sideline basically close enough to each other to hold hands.

And the help defenders are just standing and waiting above the FT line. For the inevitable pick and roll 2 man game.

Such bad basketball.

Imagine a guy like Steph is 1994

He's already nearly impossible to atop and that's when you can have 2 guys chasing him through screens, cheating into the lane to allow the on ball defender to be up on him

In that era though? 1 dude chasing him to a spot 24 ft away with the entire aide cleared out so he's now 1v1 with no paint help?

Wtf could you do? In that era you'd just back off the shooter and if he makes a 25 footer you live with it but Steph would make 9 3s a game or get 12 layups a game with 16 ft attempts lol

IT ate up defenses in that era and he didn't have Stephs handles, size or shooting

I guess stupid is as stupid does…

You have responded to everyone of my posts prior , so what does that say about you?

I generally respond when I am directly talked about.

No need for me to point out that you are wrong when others have already done so.

Because I chose not to pile on you thought that meant you were correct?

Sorry dude, not the case.

Steph in 1994 would have been pulverized into oblivion with his style of play

Again, read up on zone defense played against played against MJ and you will find many blogs that claim it was a myth that zone defenses weren’t played against him

You will find that both Knicks and pistons played zone defense on MJ

You think just because zone defenses weren’t allowed that coaches didn’t find away to somehow get around it?

Isn’t that their jobs, to win at all costs, even by cheating?

The rules prevented any type of semi effective zone

Go ahead and post a link that backs you up if you actually have it so the rest of us can poke holes in it.

Good help defense applies zone principles. The illegal defense rules of the 90s made it impossible to play good help defense and made it easy to isolate your best scorer in 1 on 1, or a 2 man game.

Superstar step became a thing in the 80s. It is not worse today.

Jordan flopped too. Don’t kid yourself. Every competitor embellishes contact to get calls. Does not make someone soft, it makes them smart.
and when it comes to Lebron? He can be a drama queen no doubt but that guy gets hit every time he goes to the hoop with any traffic.

Lebron gets bumped and hits the floor like a fucking trail derailed. Don’t be an idiot. He flops and acts like he’s in pain over the most minuscule shit
Lebron does do this for sure...but he also gets hit a lot and doesn' flop nor get a call. Looks different than the waif, Jordan.

Anyone that claims the NBA is soft isn't a real fan and doesn't watch much.

You miss the days of teams beating the shit outta each other like back in the 80's? I don't.
Really all they have done is try to make today's players actually play D instead of just holding, grabbing, etc.

If memory serves, it was Rodman who said it, but Zeke either repeated it or agreed with it when asked about it. Forget which it was.
If I remember was kind of hard to tell. Think he was told what Rodman said then kind of repeated it as a question and was laughing.....so maybe laughing because he knew Rodman a dunderhead but didn't want to throw under bus?
