lets not break out the anointing oil just yet .

yes we have seen what we "could be " but the question is "are we "

a klunker vs the chiefs will ignite a KC lynching for sure . if hunt carves up our defense the manusky will be a bum

coach will want to tank and dean will explode for 2 weeks in an anti KC witch hunt in which curses abound and choking against big time opponents will be the words of the week

love the win but now its time to see if we are contenders or pretenders vs these good teams . the next step in our teams evolution

no exploding. just points about the game. With Berry being out I think Kc can have success against their secondary.

KC likely will do well against KC in either case - sorry couldn't resist.

This is the NFL - things can change in a major way from week to week. I honestly don't expect them to win this game especially since it is at KC, but they have a shot. At worst I want to see the defense, O line & receivers continue to progress. Should be a fun one. Can't get down after some losses this season - it is not as if anyone is expecting this team to win their remaining games or go to the SB.

Touche. Just being objective. It is very tough to win in KC & especially when the Chiefs might be the best team in the NFL rt now. Don't get me wrong - would love to see the Redskins win & they certainly have a shot. HTTR

The more time goes by the more I believe that Cousins will remain in DC after this season. He appears to be very happy & comfortable with the area, team, coach & players & has indicated as much in various interviews. He has never stated a desire to leave the Redskins - that is all complete speculation & usually from outsiders who are clueless. I also never understood all the hype about him going to the 49ers. What would motivate him to go there? Simply having Shanahan as a coach is not that special especially when it would appear that he is going to a much worse team & an environment where he has to start all over again.

Also - this team appears to be trending in the rt direction so that is huge motivation for him to stay & it is almost a given that they will pay him a huge amt of $$ for his extension. Even 8-8 may be a decent season - you can't tell by record alone - it depends on other factors such as injuries & they do have a pretty tough schedule. We will see.

I think it all hinges on 2 things. How the team does and how the FO treats him. If the team does finish strong and looks to have the makings of a perennial contender, this will be hard for Cousins to walk away from. Unless of course, the FO once again says one thing and acts another. If the team does finish strong, the FO needs to make a strong, aggressive opening offer. stop dicking around and get the guy signed and move onto working on the others you MAY want to keep like Brown, Pryor, Breeland, etc. But if they come to the table after the season with the same old below market, low guaranteed crap, he will go to FA. And then all bets are off. There are teams out there that need a solid QB who are also on the rise. Oh, and under no circumstances should the team ever utter the word "Tag", even if it is a possibility for them. That just sets the minimum for the negotiations.

You tank this season and you are effectively tanking the next 3-4 seasons also. Because if you have to work a new rookie QB into the system, the chances are better than average that he doesn't work out. Which means we will use a season or two at a minimum to come to that conclusion. And then you do it all over again. SO be careful what you wish for.

Why dad? After a great week, just why all the negativity and "buts"? I know we must turn our attention to the Chiefs but can we just continue to enjoy last weeks win as fans please.

I don't really understand the notion of tanking especially in the NFL. I can understand it more in the NBA where 1 or 2 players make all of the difference & nobody really cares if you sit out certain guys for all/most of the season.

If you actually tried to tank how exactly would you accomplish this? You can't ask players to give less than 100% & if you did & they agreed then who in the hell wants players like that? A coach certainly won't make moves to accomplish this since it likely would cost him his job. The FO doesn't really control much now that the season is underway so they can't really dictate this. I think that the idea of tanking is basically a myth & I would hope that anyone suggesting this is basically joking.

The Colts didn't really tank the season before drafting Luck. It was just a matter of circumstances. Manning was unexpectedly hurt & without him they were lost since he was such a vital part of their team. Oh well - it is best for the Redskins to simply continue to play as well as they can since - again - getting one of the top few picks guarantees nothing especially if you have to sacrifice certain players & it involves expecting less than maximum effort from your current team.

Again - I maintain that it doesn't exist in this era. Sure towards the end of the season perhaps some players on losing teams may not appear to be putting forth maximum effort (& we never really know since this could be a side effect of an injury or some off field situation like family illness). However I find it hard to believe that players would actually try to lose & again almost no coach would cooperate in this situation since it could very likely lead to their firing.

I would say the Jets appeared to be tanking in the offseason.

They released or let the following go from the previous year.

Ryan Fitzpatrick QB- 11 games starter

Giancomini OT-5 starts

Mangold C- 8 starts

Folk K

WR Marshall and Decker

CB Revis

Gilchrist S- 13 starts

David Harris LB- 15 starts

That is a quick check.

No - don't get me wrong. I agree with you that teams may go in this direction during the offseason (call it tanking, rebuilding or whatever). I was more referring to in season where the players and coaches control things for the most part.

Contrast this to the NBA where teams actually do appear to tank in season by shutting down various players & making in season trades that cripple teams for that season. In season trades of any magnitude rarely happen in the NFL.
