Why do you care if KC has all the leverage (which he doesn't)?

Of course he does. Wait until you see what his initial contract demands will be. If we get to see them. Do you really think he is going to sign for a discount?

Again Dean, the question was... why does it bother you so much that he has all the leverage. We all agree, there is a limit to the amount the team will give him despite the leverage he has. Its been shown that the only way Kirks contract prevents us from being able to sign any free agents we are interested in, is if his deal is DOUBLE what Luck got... which it wont be.

Bottom line, you seem to be looking for a reason to NOT sign Kirk because you think having these magical draft picks would be a better option.

A lot of leverage? Yes. All of the leverage? Absolutely not. Let's say that the Redskins offer him big guaranteed money but not quite the $80M or whatever amt they are seeking. You don't think that Cousins would not consider that or perhaps counter with a number between the two? If he balks & agrees to the tag (which I hope never happens) he is risking losing $$ if he gets injured or plays very poorly. You don't think that he would at least consider playing for a little less if it still resulted in a very, very big contract? There is also the matter of him wanting to get the long term deal so that he can focus just on football & basically never have to worry about this type of stuff again.

Rumor has it that WE are starting at 80m g. So KC doesn't even have to play hard to get. IF he turns that down then the fun continues.

To be honest, that was the minimum I expected him to get as a guarantee at this point. That number is always subject to go up. And it still doesnt explain why you are so concerned with his contract as being a possible reason to move away from him when it has been shown multiple times that despite the expected contract, even at $80 or $100M guaranteed, it will not preclude this team from going after any of the possible free agents on the market this year or in the next 3-5 years for that matter.

Cmon man. The Skins are not going to give KC more gmoney than Luck. Now you say 100g. Cmon man. Lets see how it plays out. I think Synder is scared and doesn't want to lose him. So Im expecting 80g will be the number.

b/c KC doesn't deserve the money that he is going to get. I know its the market value. But its just hilarious that a QB doesn't have to win the big games to get paid big time.

who are you to determine what a man is worth in a free market ? lots of qbs havent won big games until a little later in their starting careers but you know what ? he won 4 big games in a row when he took us to the playoffs 2 years ago . he lost to aaron rodgers in his first playoff start wow what a deadbeat

Not saying he is a deadbeat but he isn't a superstar either. There you go again with the blank check mentality. Is there an number in your mind that is too much for KC? or you guys think he deserves anything he wants.

lord dean it isnt the blank check mentality !!!! it is showing you your position is foolish we have the money he isnt getting 100 m guaranteed . we are saying even if he does will STILL ARE IN GREAT SHAPE

But the draft picks man, the draft picks. Imagine what an awesome mock draft I could configure if we had the #2 and #17 pick in the first round.

You pay the QB (or any player) based on what he will do moving forward - not what he already did or didn't do (although that is a basis for his potential). They obviously believe that Cousins has the potential to take this team on a deep playoff run with the rt improvements in other areas. Again - he can correct his faults.

I would much rather pay a player like Cousins who is in his prime & has the possibility of getting better than say paying a player like Kobe Bryant as a reward for past performance knowing damn well that he won't contribute much on the new contract.

Romo got his team in the playoffs or basically carried his team to decent seasons.
