$5.25 M per season.

Makes Karlsson's contract look better and better.

I guess Feaster didn't want to be the only wide man on the Flames...

/Man, that's a terrible joke I know.

I also think JayBo has to be moved now and Feaster probably already has a team or teams in mind...

Are the dollars a little high? Yes, probably a 1/2 million too high and I'm not a fan of the 5 year term, but everybody knows you generally overpay when bringing free agents on board.

Wideman is absolutely brutal, defensively.

Oddly enough, he and JayBo probably would be a pretty good pairing. A very overpaid one, as well.

Wideman would have easily gotten $5mil on the open market had he waited until July 1st. I don't know why you're mad at ICW, somebody would have done it. If JayBo stays, then they'll have a complement to their LH shot on the PP.

I'm going to wait until I hear what the Oilers twitter account has to say about the deal.
but yes, it's probably $2mill too high

Pretty sure unless he's injured that he won't be spending anytime in the pressbox. Can Canucks fans say the same about Ballard?

a) We didn't sign him to that deal, just acquired it (but he's still overpaid)
b) Justin Schultz at $950k will balance that out :thumb:

He may end up being overpaid by $1.25M tops for what he's actually worth (in todays NHL Defenseman market), but he easily would have gotten the contract that he got from Calgary if he hit July 1st. I'd take Wideman over Aglass Hemsky and his contract any day.....if Edmonton is laughing at what my team does, then I'm a happy man.

I really don't know what the big fuss is about.....

Just to put things in perspective:

Wideman made 4.5 million last year and got less than a 1 million dollar raise as a UFA after putting up some pretty good numbers last season. Do some of you guys actually think he would sign somewhere for 3 to 3.5 million a year?

Edit: #10 in points in the league for defensemen and #11 in goals
