I'm with you there. I've always felt this it their best look, loved it when they played Dallas where we got to wear the home dark red on the road too. Back when we really were burgundy and gold, not that white on white or black on black shit.
If you cannot make the correlation I can't help you there.
We don't need a history lesson to understand what happened to Native Americans. But it's a reach to make a direct correlation between the name Commanders and the genicide of Native Americans and that the name is racist. Not sure I saw the word Commander in your entire article.

Again pro-Redskins guys appear to be maknig up a reason to discredit the name Commanders. When I first heard the name Commanders I instantly thought of George Washington, General Lee etc. When you look up commander on Wiki it takes you to list of generals, both Civil War or in other countries. Nobody is linking it directly to the slaughter of Native Americans except you.

I did prefer Warriors but I understand it was a copywrite issue. Or Red Wolves but heard the same, perhaps BS from the team who was trying to justify the name Commanders.
There is a direct correlation without having the name Commander in the article. I'm sorry you don't understand it. To say I am the only one that understands what Commanders had a direct responsibility for extinguishing Native Americans is simply ignorance.
Not sure whatcopy write issues you speak of. There are multiple teams using the same mascot team name as you know. The team or persons who justified the name Commanders did not do their homework nor are they with the organization any longer. I believe they (HE) knew what he was doing and it was his parting shot. How NFL higher ups allowed such hyprocity is beyond me.

Commanders has nothing to with Washington, the city is full of politicians, Generals and Admirals. They rank of Commander in Washington = go get me a cup of coffee.

AN OPEN LETTER TO JOSH HARRIS

Dear Mr. Harris,

The change of football ownership in Washington gave us a lot of hope. A rich, historic franchise was sullied by a flawed ownership, greed and hatred, and a politicized agenda
As fans, we endured mediocre teams, scandals, and mistake after mistake both on and off the field.

The former owner is gone, but part of his legacy remains - a name that was not popular with the fans
Commanders was not a top ten pick among fans, and there was a collective groan of disappointment among many of us when it was unveiled. The team name did not hearken to the past and gave us little direction about the future.
Since you have come to the DMV, you have given us hope. When you and your partners used the word “Redskins” in your opening days as owners, you said a name that we had not heard publicly for months.
You were willing to acknowledge our past and rise above the false perception that it was a racist name.

In recent months, you have acknowledged Blackie Wetzel’s majestic Indian logo and given it recognition at Northwest Field
The team hurtfully discarded an icon that was an object of pride and distinction for Native Americans. You righted that wrong.
This season, you have put together a winner on the field. Continue by winning back a substantial part of your fan base by embracing the rich heritage that got us to this point. Change the name.
The Chiefs have a tomahawk chop, a Super Bowl team, and respectful Native American imagery. We have a growing team, a fractured fan base, and a pig
The tone-deafness that was displayed by the former ownership and that appears to be continued by you will hinder the progress this team can make on and off the field.
You want to win. We all want to win. Let’s win across the board.

Respectfully in the spirit of HTTR,

Have no idea what the first part has to do with my comment about the unform colors so I guess I do need your help afterall.

I understand there were Commanders who lead charges against Native Americans. As I said you need to be looking for a reason to hate on the name to claim everyone automatically correlates the name with that and that the name is racist. You are reaching to try to prove a point.

As for the copywrite issues it was with the Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors, or at least that's what we were told by the team so there's that. Just reported what was reported at the time, it was all over the news so I'm suprised you missed it. I remember it well because those were the names I supported.

Still waiting for @j_y19 to return, address my responses, and explain to the class why he chose to attack me for simply, and accurately, stating that the majority of fans dug in on wanting the name returned to Redskins are conservatives. Why on Earth did you fly off the handle at such a simple comment which happens to be true? What exactly was the big deal in me pointing this out? That was fucking weird.

I did not comment on the uniform colors because that is not the issue here. The all black uniform colors are not representative of the team and never have been, the other combinations are ok. They are not the traditional burgundy and gold but whatever. As for the name, one is just as offensive as the other. The only exception is the logo which was given as a gift to the organization and typically represents resources given as an act of survival and not to be taken lightly or not accepted. To say I'm reaching is false. Perhaps if the team's name was changed from Redskins to Typhoons, Hogs or Road Runners would be a reason to claim I hate it or am looking for a reason it should be changed.

I didn't miss anything about copywrite issues. I saw it, heard it and read everything regarding it. There is always a work around as you can see with other teams having the same nick names. I think Harris is tired of hearing the questions and I think the fans as well as NAGA will not stop asking them until he changes the name. Not to mention, it wreaks of Dan Snyder. It will never be Josh Harris' team, it will always be Dan Snyder's team he bought known as the Commies.

Don’t hold your breath. I made my point. Don’t see why I need to elaborate. What’s weird is why you would politicize the issue.

And you didn't when you referenced liberals? WTF are you talking about? The issue has ALWAYS been split along party line as I just proved to you.

After reading my post I see now why you reacted I didn't realize my comment followed a shot at conservatives so I understand now. But let's not forget for a second that I haven't been reading liberals and "woke" being constantly bashed by people who wanted the name retained, the conservatives. These constant comments, including in this very thread, caused my reaction.

Seems your side is free to bash libs and their agenda with such anger but when I simply point out the politics of those who are doing this you became unhinged. Sounds about as reasonable as bringing up the election where it does not belong.

Yeah I never bought the copywrite issue, it was IMO an excuse for the team to ramrod through a name they had already decided on.

As for the Commanders being the most racist name and autumatically associated with specific commanders who killed Native Americans well that's your interpretation that is not shared by many. When I goggled Commanders I got a lot of hits but none went right to the specific Commanders who were slaughtering NAs. Only place I have saw that charge is here, by you.

Yes but the name has an "s" on it so this post holds no water.
Well there is also the Pentagon and several military bases that is the workplace for countless military commanders. So there is a Washington tie. I'm just saying that associating the name with the specific commanders who attacked Native Americans is utter nonsense. It's an agenda looking for an excuse to dismiss a name that is not Redskins.

Now look at me, sticking up for a name I don't like. I'm just saying yet another rebrand is a waste of time and money with little gain. My position is there are more important things to spend their time and energy on.

Interesting debate guys, but let me add a little something to it.
1. No "Commander" or set of "Commanders"
randomly decided to destroy the subjects of this conversation.
2. They all got their marching orders from Washington and the powers that were, created their justification from an ideology called "Manifest Destiny" (God's will)

That is all... carry on, I'm out!

I agree on your first point, and believe they did "ramrod" though the naming of the team as very few internally had an agenda.

As for the complete disrespect to Native Americans (the name), I vote you and I table this discussion at this point. Can we agree DGF?
