When communicating, there is a giver and receiver of the message. Yes, the giver delivers the intent and the receiver should understand the intent or the communication is ineffective.

Naw, a backhanded joke aimed at her politics. I was kinda for this group until I saw the people who are running it. Looks like a bunch of disgruntled Redskins fans and not Native Americans who are spearheading this.

The principle remains the same. If people choose to honor you, you should probably just say thank you or no thanks. When you are part of a group, just because you do not like it, does not make you more correct than the vast majority of your group.
