Golden Knights Name Change?

Knights has been copyrighted by the junior hockey team in London, Ontario. The name Knights would be fine for the States, but it wouldn't fly in Canada.

Trademark issues have been the cause of the delay in a team name, as the team’s owner Bill Foley and the league look to get beyond this hurdle.

The latest surrounds ‘The Knights,’ which has become an unlikely option, Foley told the Las Vegas Review Journal, because of the London Knights name in the Ontario Hockey League.

“The London Knights own the name in Canada and to acquire the name from London is not economically feasible,” said Foley, adding there should be “clarity” on the name issue in the next 30 days. “In the U.S., ‘Knights’ are fine. But we can’t use it in Canada.”

I’ve never understood the “Knights” name issue.

-They play at different levels
-There are other examples in the CHL, in particular the Lethbridge Hurricanes and the Carolina Hurricanes
-The NHL could easily just tell the OHL “Do this or we’ll allow 19 year old CHL players to play in the AHL”
-The London Knights owner is currently the AGM of an NHL team. If it’s really that much of a problem have Leaf ownership lean on him

I feel like that was just an excuse because Foley really wanted a military tie-in.

I believe it. One reason Lethbridge works great as an example here is the NHL leaned on them a few years back because their logo too closely resembled not the Carolina Hurricanes’ but the Washington Capitals’ lol:

I really don’t think the London Knights are stopping Vegas from using that name.

IDK, people might confuse the professional hockey team with cookies then.

Strawberry Newtons? No. The fig loyalists would become Hockey Hooligans. The fights in the stands would overwhelm the fights on the ice. LV would be mired in public safety and liability concerns. Whereas, everyone loves Wayne (Even those that don't still profess love for Wayne. Wayne's a bad ass.).
