I think we have a team that is hopelessly inconsistent and I don't expect that to change.

I will point out though that good teams have been blown out this year..... Not sure why it's happening, but you see it every week. The Pats were blown out this season (in KC). KC was blown out this year (against the Titans). The Colts were blown out this year (last night). The Steelers were blown out in Cleveland.

This......is what I have been screaming......when Gio comes back, they need to split carries more like 60/40 in Hill's favor, and feature Gio a little more as a receiver......

I think a FB actually hurts our RB's as they clog the hole they were supposed to go through, doesn't allow them as much vision behind the line and blows up what could have been decent plays. Besides, we have hardly played with a FB at all this year except in short yardage situations.

I think we should play both together on the field at the same time 50% of the offensive plays. Both are decent little blockers, both are good hands guys out of the backfield, and both can run between the tackles and break long runs. Of course Gio is the home run hitter, but Hill is the smash mouth RB. If you are going to have this good of a set of RB's, use the damn guys.

Especially since Eifert is maybe out for the season and we can't run our two TE sets.

Dalton
Hill/Bernard
Green/Sanu
Gresham (rather this be Eifert)
5 OLinemen.

There are so many things Jackson could do to disguise every single play with that personnel.

Either Hill or Bernard could take a hand off. Both are decent blockers for a pass. Both can catch passes out of the backfield. Giop has good enough hands to actually start him in I-formation and then send him in motion wide. Sanu can throw the ball, run the ball, catch the ball. Green has the speed to take double coverage, run reverses. Gresham is good enough to drop or fumble everything that comes his way, so we should probably not use him much but as a decoy.

With that personnel you can also help protect against blitzes if Dalton sees they are coming. Audible to a protection set for Gio or Hill or both, and or use one or the other as a dump off route, either one, and regardless of down and distance, either has a chance to run or catch the ball and make a first down.

If we were smart, we would utilize all of our talent on the field at the same time, instead of trying to play favorites or veterans. Play your best guys, design packages around getting them all on the field, etc.

I'd hate to disagree with you twice in 10 minutes, but what?????

Have you not been watching Ryan Hewitt light up the linebackers? The counter plays they run with Hill are awesome and they aren't possible without Hewitt.

Excellent post. I guess I never gave much thought to Hewitt and how infrequently we use him still. We mostly lineup in a single back formation it seems like.

Hewitt has done a nice job by watching those links. Looks like he may be our best FB since Lorenzo Neal..lol.

Still, I think I rather have more weapons on the field at once. I think we need to get Hill and Gio on the field for 75% of the offensive snaps each. 50% together, and 25% individually for breathers and new alignments like with Hewitt at FB blocking, or two TE's. I have been pleasantly surprised by Hewitt, but I was mostly watching his play at TE to be honest. Once the ball is handed off I really lose track of what is going on outside the ball carrier unless it is glaringly obvious.

I'm all for getting the most out of our personnel..... So mixing Gio and Hill will be great.

I've always thought (see my posts through the years) that Marvin's teams do better when they have a competent fullback. Whenever his teams have been pass happy or unable to run they've been exposed to his shitty clock management skills and other potential mistakes that keep teams in games. In a game like yesterday, it's pretty easy to figure out why our defense looked so good -- They weren't on the field too much.

If we could just get them to stop putting Peko on offense on the goal line, we'll be set.... He's awful at it.... And yes, I know that one time 100 years ago he pancaked Troy P.

You don't have to give me that pancake line. I hate Peko in on offense. He is the biggest reason I hate a FB in front of Hill and Gio. LOL How many times does he miss his block, fall down in front of our RB or just plain blow? Pretty much all the time. So what, he hit Troy back in the day. I hate Peko on offense. Hell most the time I don't even like him on defense. haha

ok, Hewit has earned my trust as a FB, now the only problem is that he's probably a better tight end than Gresham, lol.

Just watched the game replay, pretty impressive effort. The offense was definitely clicking. I like Hill more and more every week. It seemed like there very a low amount of possessions, long drives by both teams.
I didn't think the Saints played that bad. It looked like Brees had to check it down a lot.
Gives me a little optimism for Houston
