Giants minor league teams are doing very well, in the low minors

DSL (28-16) 1st place
AZL (24-5) 1st place
AUG (54-48) 4th place
SJ (64-44) 1st place
RIC (50-58) Last place
FRE (49-60) Last place

The distant future looks solid. Not sure why the kids are not developing as they should when they get to AA and AAA. Is that something that needs addressing? Or are we drafting players whose ceiling is only High-A ball?

Sometimes when very talented players get pulled up in better leagues, playing with better talent they shrink and stop progressing.

In AAA, Brett Pill is third in the league batting .344 with an OPS of 1.010, he is 4th in home runs with 18. Catcher Johnny Monell is 5th in homers with 17, and is hitting .290 with an OPS of .917 (So why is GQ still in SF?) AAA pitching sucks, but Hembree is 2nd with 22 saves but with a 4.57 ERA.

In AA, Mark Minicozzi (3b) is 2nd in the league hitting .328 with an OPS of .880. Outfielder Javier Herrera is hitting .301 with an OPS of .873

If Bret Pill was pulled up, given the job, and spoon fed like Belt was; I have no doubt he would have been a better player. Belt got the job because he was a younger player and given every opportunity and given every excuse to preform.

Sorry, computer hung up.

AA pitching is led by Chris Gloor with a 3.53 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. Daryl Maday has 13 saves and a 2.84 ERA. Edwin Quirarte has 7 saves and a 2.88 ERA.

High A San Jose is led by Mac Williamson with .285 average and .861 OPS, he has 19 homers. Devin Harris has 20 homers and is hitting .257. The hitting in San Jose is OK, but the pitching is stellar. San Jose's team ERA is 3.59 with leads the league. Crick, Blach, Blackburn are all excellent. Josh Osich is 7th in the league with 12 saves, and a 2.45 ERA. (I think he has moved up to Richmond)

Low-A Augusta has Matt Duffy (ss) batting .301 with an OPS of .817. Pitching is led by Kendry Flores (2.97 ERA), Chris Stratton (3.59), Martin Agosta (2.03), Tyler Mizenko (22 saves, 2.51).

Short Season Rookie League (SK) led by Brandon Bednar (.288) and Tyler Hollick (.287). Pitching led by Andrew Leenhouts (6-1, 2.16), Chris Johnson (2.25 and leads league in K's and has a 10/1 K/BB)

AZL led by Christian Arroyo (.292). Pitching by Keury Mella (2.49)

DSL has a dearth of hitting (team =.228) Miguel Gomez (c) (.373 in only 20 games). Luis Castillo has 14 saves, a 0.45 ERA, a 0.60 WHIP, and a 12.5/1 K/BB. Reymi Rodriguez is 6-1 with a 0.90 ERA. Eusebio Encarnacion (2.21) and Eber Guzman (2.90) also look decent. Lots of pitching, poor hitting.

Geez, you're amazing talent recognizing skills are wasted on this board. How did the Giants org overlook you in favor of clowns like John Barr and Bobby Evans?

It's SHOCKING.

Or, you're a pantshatting interwebs poster.

Tough to decide which....

Based on what?

Belt crushed the minors too. I think he was brought up a bit prematurely in 2011 but I don't regret the decision on trying to develop the younger, higher rated player.

Thank you for the substance and thank you for saying Pill was a higher rated player; or implied it.

What I based it on was what Pill offered when he came to the majors.. He absolutely showed better pop in his bat and all around better better than Belt. Belt suppository had a better glove but I never saw it then. Also Belt wasn't getting it done and they tried him in the OF... remember how that played out?

He has been given every excuse and no he hasn't been the player the Giants hoped for.

You reveal yourself here...you've got your Belt hate because he hasn't been the player YOU hoped for. He's JT Snow not Will Clark. And that pisses you off so you post like he's useless, a bust, not a major leaguer, and no better than a AAAA guy like Pill.

Look, we all (Giants' brass included) were hoping for the new Clark, and are kind of annoyed that he's probably not getting there. But that doesn't mean he's not a useful major leaguer. We won a WS with him at 1B. And in fact, our specific team might be better served with a less than amazing 1B, because of Posey needing to play there once in a while. If Belt was the second coming of Clark that would be a lot messier situation.

I think it has more to do with the fact that the players that would be dominating AA and AAA are either with the big club or traded for other pieces. This just shows what we have been discussing: the farm is a couple years away from being impressive (barring any big trades or prospect regressions, of course).

Why must you act superior to every fan that chimes in with an idea ? I will make you a bet Belt will never amount to anything near above average in the Majors.....He is Dave Kingman without the power at this point.
