I didn't have that much of a problem with the INTs, that's what young QBs do. I had a much bigger problem with him playing scared, he appeared to be aiming the ball, and his accuracy was simply unacceptable. As I said in another thread many of his completions were off target, forcing the WR to make an adjustment. And of course the big plays he missed totally changed the game. Hit them and they keep pace with a Giants team that really wasn't doing that much offensively. But they missed, allowing NY to keep control of the ball and the game.

I am not so sure that I agree with your first sentence. If you have not already - read the article about Jaworski's take. You will see that most of Cousins' picks are related to his flawed approach to the game. The article also points out how he throws INTs at a much worse rate even when compared to some of the bigger busts in recent history.

This is his 4th year & you would have to think that he would have this figured out some of this by now (doesn't matter that he didn't play all the games - he has had plenty of time to address these issues with coaches). I agree with you about the other missed chances which was painfully obvious in some of the missed opportunities for Reed.

Oh well - what can we do now except hope that they work this out & watch over the next several games to see if any progress is being made. That's how it goes being a Redskins fan.

Reality is there remains a lot of games to define who this 2015 skins team really is.

A bad game can be just that.

Regardless, a lot of areas that have to improve and/or be more consistent to focus on.

Execution, penalties, pass rush and STs remain the biggest concerns to me.

There are some bright spots - Dustin looks to be stepping in nicely and a return for a TD by Ross is a thing we haven't seen in eons. Tackling seems better. Keenan is really good. Defense had its moments last nite.

He threw two passes against Baltimore and ran in a 2 pt conversion. Then he beat the Cleveland Browns a week later. He didn't save a damn thing. If anything he okee doked everybody into thinking he might be able to play and 2012 might be the worst thing that's happened to this team. It made everybody believe the Skins had a stud QB and a damn good QB. When the reality is both of them are garbage.
I've never considered Cousins a stud. Say what you want, he saved that Ravens game and threw for a bunch of yards in Cleveland. Without that, there is no division title.

As fans, we need to maintain an even keel here. Let's not over react to a terrible game by Kirk or the team. Let's see how they respond. We have seen good and bad things so far. I expect that will continue as we build and develop the roster.

This comment is directed to a post about JJ Watt but the same is true for any teams performance.

On a different note. Can we agree that the Ribeye and Roberts experiment is done? Think it's time to move on from those two.

I didn't mean to say I was OK with the picks, just that it can be corrected. When you can't hit what you are throwing at, well you have no shot.

We need to stop using such a small sample size from 3 years ago as any form of measuring stick. To me it was how he moved the team when he was in the game in the follow years that gave me hope. But that hope is fading rapidly.

Hey, I'm one of the few on this board that believes Robert should be on this roster and deserved a shot this year. I take flack from time to time for it. However, being the true Redskins fan that I am, I also have stated numerous times that in this system Kirk moves this team the best. I'm just not a Colt guy, and I fear that is where this train is headed. Deep down Jay is a Colt guy. The owner wants Robert, he wants Colt, so I almost feel like he went with Kirk as that happy medium that everyone could live with.

The following years Kirk did move the team pretty well in Atlanta, Philadelphia, and at home against Jax. He's just throws the damn ball to the other team constantly. This is a guy that gets praised for reading defenses. Than why can't he read the fact that some of these guys are just not open or not there all together.

I like Robert and I like Kirk, probably in that order. Their upside is bigger than Colt. Colt is solid but limited.

Guys, KC did not play well last night, but that second INT was a fluke. It was a forced pass and should not have been thrown. But he did not throw it into the arms of a waiting defender. He threw so that only one guy could catch it. It just happened to be deflected straight up into the air. It could have just as easily been knocked down. This is not necessarily a defense of KC. I am becoming increasingly concerned. And in general, he was timid with many of his passes last night so he was routinely off target. But I just don't see the same INT issue from last year. If you take away that fluke INT last night and that unbelievable INT last week (which isn't a catch 99% of the time), his INT count for the three games is about average. He still needs to be better, but we need to look at him objectively. My concerns is that often when he goes off schedule, he forces passes and is just not very accurate on the move. Of course is also concerned that he cant rally the offense to win. And a QB needs to be able to do that.

What we are overlooking is that KC did perform ok later in the game. He found himself numerous times in second and third and really long and made the plays to get the first and continue the drives. Once he was second and 28, inside the 10, and found the open guys to get the first. And the Giants were bringing the house at that point. So this was not garbage time in a prevent defense

It wasn't all bad for him last night, he did show some movement.

What's flukey about forcing a pass to a covered like a blanket player that gets batted up into the air and intercepted? Nothing. It was a terrible decision and ill advised, unnecessary risk that squashed what was a promising drive.

In other-words it was Kirk Cousins SOP.....................

I agree with everything you say. The fluke part is that that deflection could have just as easily gone straight down and people aren't talkin about this issue. It was a bad decision and a forced throw. But he is not melting down like last year. He put together drives in the 2nd half. At one point, he had 4th and 14 and got the first. It was these situations that he melted down last year. Is he there yet? Absolutely not. He may never be. BUt as hard as it is to fathom after his rocky performance last night, he has made strides. But he still needs to make more or he can't be a starter in t.his league.

Redskins say Kirk Cousins has changed, but interceptions remain the same — espn.go.com — Readability

Excerpt

  1. I’m not going to defend quarterback Kirk Cousins because he did not play well and the multiple-turnover games need to end. Simple as that. He’s thrown at least two interceptions in eight of his 17 NFL appearances. And if they continue, then changes will have to be made. Yep, simple as that as well. To think it would happen after Thursday is a bit much; the guy was coming off the sort of game they wanted: efficient, turnover-free. But if you’re really a changed quarterback, then there must be more consistency. The Week 4 game versus Philadelphia becomes a huge one for Cousins: What happens if there is another game with at least two turnovers? You can’t keep saying at that point he’s changed.

  2. The real problem, though, is that Robert Griffin III did not show he could operate the offense the way they needed and Colt McCoy has his own limitations, which become more pronounced over a long stretch. The Redskins have determined what they have in Griffin and they understand McCoy’s long-term viability. That leaves them needing to see if Cousins, indeed, has changed. If not, then start eyeing college passers.

  3. It’s hard to believe that Alfred Morris only carried the ball six times, but it was also telling that Matt Jones got the first series of the game. Yes, it’s about personnel and what packages they want to run with that group. I thought the Giants had some good defensive linemen versus the run, but anticipated being able to get wide on them. However, the blocking was not the same -- and defenders were getting off blocks, by tight ends and the linemen. Losing guard Shawn Lauvao did not help. The Redskins averaged a season-low 2.70 yards before contact -- the league average is 2.56, but they averaged 3.36 in the first two games. Jones averaged only 2.18 yards before contact; Morris averaged 1.33. So, yes, that suggests issues with blocking. It’s real hard during games to see all you need to see, so I’ll be curious what the film shows. Jones’ ball security will be a problem -- and compounded if Cousins doesn’t reduce his interceptions.

As usual, keim has a pretty objective look at it.
