In all seriousness though, the fact that the 49ers have played in abunch of close games and won most of them is a good thing; means they are battle tested and used to playing under pressure. I have a feeling its going to turn out well on Sunday.

Another good point! Last year we lose most of those games - This year we learned how to finish. The expectation seems to have shifted from an expectation to lose to an expectation to win...Which is quite familiar to both of us.

There it is; a refreshing change from the last several years.

Indeed! No mater how this season ends, I am already looking forward to next season, and 'that' is something I haven't felt for awhile...

I'm already thinking about it too. The 49ers will not be able to sneak up on anybody next year and the schedule is going to be tough. We get all three division winners; NY at home and, GB and N.O. on the road plus a trip out to Foxboro, and to New Jersey to play the Jets. They also get the up and coming Bears and Lions teams as well. Lastly, I think all three teams in their division are going to be improved; especially AZ and Seattle who seemed to be improving as the season went on. Its going to be a battle next year. We won't see 13 and 3 again but I think they'll win the division again. We'll really see what they are made of next year.

Agreed...it's almost funny that this is what we have all wanted for so long - Well we got it. Kind of like the dog that finally catches the car - now what?

I understand the league wants to implement parity but the Niners schedule is the toughest I recall seeing. I think the Niners are going to play even better next year though having had a whole year of this system and a whole off season to prepare for the 2012 campaign. They'll be a better team but I cannot see them winning 13 games with that schedule. I wouldn't trade this season though. It has been so fun and so unexpected. Can you imagine if they win Sunday? The Super Bowl? No one could have predicted that.

You hit on some good points, one of which is the unexpectedness of this season. That alone makes it okay if we don't win Sunday - I want to and firmly believe we can - but if we don't it will not make this season a disappointment whatsoever.

Me neither, but that has been Harbs policy since he arrived - unless they're dead - tell 'em nothing!

For me the surprise on that list is Willis - knee injury? When did that happen? It is looking like Harbaugh will have a couple difficult decisions to make when filling out this Sunday's line-up.

Our back-up WR's could very well be Brett Swain & Joe Hastings.

Yeah Willis' injury concerns me a little, but hopefully nothing really serious.... Harbs playing it close to the vest.

Sh*t, got me sweating about Willis over here!!!!

Goodwin will play. He knows how bad things will be if he does not and Rachal has to play.

God help us if Goodwin can't suit up...

I think he will, cause he didn't seem bad to me after the game(based on limited viewing)....

I think Goodwin will be fine.

Nope, but if they do win I'll be rolling around on the floor in hopeless ecstasy.

Me too. It does show you how thin we are on the offensive line though.

That "thinness" goes by the name Chilo Rachal. Simply because his play comes down to a coin toss... heads he plays good, tails he sucks... and recently, that coin keeps landing on tails.

If the Staley, Iupati, or Davis got hurt... nobody would panic because Boone or Kilgore take over, and they've done well when they've been called into duty this year. But, if Goodwin or Snyder go down, we're left with Rachal... and praying that he plays well.

Yeah, Rachal brings some bad vibe for some reason... Davis will get screwed.

Shame, Rachal had a good story too... sad he didn't "blossom" into a formidable G.

Disagree with you about Boone. When Staley went down in the Arizona game, Boone was like a revolving door out there at Tackle. He couldn't get anybody blocked.

Well said. Its something you can't quite put your finger on but his play brings down the play of the whole line. It is strange because he was an excellent player at SC.

Which team benefits more from a messy field, in your opinion? One analyst on NFL Network (Charles Davis, I think) said it would hurt the Niners because the speed of our front seven would be negated, which would be a break for a NYG offensive line that has dealt with injuries this year.

Here are some comments from Gore, Roman & Harbaugh

"More rain was in the forecast in the Bay Area, and the 49ers pulled out the cold-weather clothing before working out in chilly conditions with a stiff wind Friday.

Harbaugh expects the field at Candlestick Park to be in good shape considering the grass was replaced before the team's Monday Night game Dec. 19 against the Steelers.

Running back Frank Gore sure hopes that's the case. He has some extra incentive going against the Giants after his franchise-record streak of five straight games with 100 yards rushing ended with a knee injury and his first career game with zero yards in the Niners' 27-20 home win Nov. 13.

"As players playing on a wet field we don't like it," he said. "But if we have to, we've got to go out there and do it."

The 49ers have been game-planning all week with the idea of facing poor conditions.

"You try to play the game in your head all week and when you have bad weather, you just picture that field all mudded up," offensive coordinator Greg Roman said. "You start going through contingencies in your mind. There's no doubt, you have to."

"I think the receivers probably have an advantage on the defensive backs because they know where they're going and the defensive backs have to react. So, if the footing is poor, the advantage is for the offense. On the same token, though, running backs can't hit a hole or can't make a cut that they usually would, so advantage defense. I think it works both ways."

Harbaugh said he knew the wet weather was on its way when he woke up early Thursday.

"I noticed when I was standing on my balcony at about 6:20, 6:30, that area, looked out and saw a very red sky," Harbaugh said before Thursday's practice. "That means, red sky at night, sailor's delight. Red sky in morning, sailor take warning. So, I anticipate that we'll have some precipitation today, some weather, and that will be a great thing for us.

"Admiral Bull Halsey once said, `If you're going to fight in the North Atlantic, then you got to prepare in the North Atlantic.' They're anticipating some rain on Sunday."
