Good on you. My mom died about a month ago from Alzheimer's. She was 88. She went well, all in all. I pray the same for your friends.

Sorry to hear that, Mays-fan. I lost my mom in 2004 (she was 72), my dad in 2005 (he was 73), and my brother in 2009 (he was 52).

I think the brain disorder diseases like Alzheimers are absolutely terrible, like a living death for those who love the person so afflicted.

The couple today are folks from the community, and tangentially related to my church. Art McRae is a living legend in the Modesto community, having coached and won 550 high school baseball games in his career. His wife is in good health physically, she just has no idea who anyone is, and has a wanful, puzzled look on her face all the time, with a small smile. Wonderful people.

Sorry about your family as well. At least my mom died relatively pain-free. She was bed-ridden with a broken hip from about 6 weeks before (she forgot she wasn't supposed to walk, and fell in the bathroom). She gradually lost all her recent memories. The last time she remembered who I was was like a week before. In the end what did her in was that she couldn't swallow, so she couldn't take in nourishment or even water. Eventually Alzheimer's goes beyond taking your memory, and interrupts the brain from communicating with the body. Alzheimer's is almost cute for a while, like the person is reverting to childhood and its memories. Eventually those go, too, and Death comes closer, knocking louder. Prepare yourself if you've never seen that before.

How sweet to take 2 from the first place team on the road after about a month of playing very tough teams

I think we've won like 11 of the last 13 in Arizona or something crazy like that. Our guys all hit well there.

I'll rank this by winning percentage rather than games behind. Good to see Mays-Fan in the win column. May his tribe increase.

Great start by Gaudin, stepping up big time when he is needed the most. Perez looks like a ball player. I thought he was playing 3rd a bit in Fresno, anyone read or heard anything about him possible getting time there with Pablo down? I know we called up Abreu, but I'd like to see Perez get some ABs.

Looks like they tried him at 2B in 2009 - not so good.

Also, this year they tried him at SS - disaster. And at 3B - better, but that's not saying much. He looks like an athlete, and made some nice plays in CF yesterday. SSS. With some work, maybe he could play some 3B. But, defensively, I would guess he's not there yet. Doesn't seem like he's a natural infielder.

I agree that he looks to be a primary OFer, with in-a-pinch 3B capabilities.

However...

Panda had played a total of about 30 games at 3B in his minor league career, and he hadn't played in a few years when he came up and took over the hot-corner in SF. I would say he has done quite well there (except he cannot make that throw to save his life).
