Not assume, but feel. Staley was beat to the outside, meaning Smith could've stepped up inside. I'm not excusing Staley, but Smith could've done more on that.
He just didn't see it man, you gotta get over that. QB's get hit from their blindside all the time. When people say "feel" the pressure coming from their blindside, it just means they see it out of the corner of their eye. We're not dealing with psychics here. Staley got beat, Alex didn't see him great beat and he got the ball taken.
I had no idea QBs can't use there feet in the pocket at the top of their drop. God forbid Smith double clutches, steps up a foot, and releases the football.
