Im still in shock that Tmac hasnt been shitcanned

4 f'in points in last 10 games. Every single team in the division has gotten at least 12 in the same stretch. They pull the goalie when the game is out of reach or to send a message. They need to send a message before the season is out of reach. :agree:

dougie has no one to blame but himself. Has a GM ever fired himself? Not resigned, just actually stepped down saying "I suck". Let's examine the last couple years for dougie:

1. trade ginner and sgarbossa to winnik and galiardi. Both winnik and galiardi were awful. Sgarbossa is nearly point per game in the AHL at age 21, and looks like he has a strong NHL future potentially. Ginner's 11pts would put him 5th on the sharks in scoring ahead of havlat, clowe, boyle, and the rest of the D and forwards other than jumob, patty, pavs, and cooch (who's has one more point). Of course he costs next to nothing and is just 24. This was one of the worst deals in recent sharks history.

2. moore ofr a 2n rounder. Total waste, 0 goals, complete loser. yes, yes, the wife issue and maybe that was a valid excuse, but still, total waste of a mid 2nd rounder.

3. 3rd rounder for sheppard. 3 years later and sheppard is still basically not NHL material. it's another wasted pick.

4. 5M to zues. ugh! brought in to fix the PK prior to LAST year. Ummm.... yeah, not so good there...

5. seto+coyle+1st rounder for burns. This deal I didnt hate and still done, but with the sharks glaring again roster, this deal made sense only if couple with a go-for it mentality. But the other deals clearly failed that, so basically this was a fail.

6. Burish at nearly 2M per? WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS!??? 4th line grinder for 2M? rediculous.

And his drafting: under dougies now 10 years as GM (he came at the end of the 2002-3 season), he has drafted 2 top line forwards (cooch and pavs) and 0 top pair dmen. He has just one other top 6 forward possibility (michalek, but he is arguably no longer a top 6 forward either). Carle is the closest to a top pair dman, but even his is a borderline #3. In other words, he has failed to produce virtually any high end draft results in 10 years.

And, excluding the famed 2003 draft bonanza (in which dougie was gifted 2 top 1st rounder and 2 2nd rounders), he has actually produced exactly ONE top 6 forward and/or top pair dman. couture. that's it. not a single other player who even approaches all star level. It's a total failure.

Up until maybe 2 or 3 years ago, I was a big dougie fan, but he has ridden his marleau-thronton-boyle combo into the ground like a farmer overusing his mules and now they are too old, too inconsistent and just too slow to compete against and the younger faster squads like ANA, LA, or chicago all of which have their top players age 28 or younger (getzlaf, perry, ryan OR Carter, richards, kopitar, brown, doughty or toews, kane, seabrook, keith, etc. ...) The sharks top players are 33, 34, and 37.

Dougie got the benefit of taking over a terrible, but young team leaded with draft picks and young talent (sturm, stuart, marleau, cheechoo, all under 25.) Now its time for the sharks to suck, trade their aging vets for picks and prospects, and give the reigns to the next GM to take a run with a younger hungrier team.

I'm going to disagree with u on the Sheppard trade. He displays a lot of the "uncoachables" that make players successful in the league. Just to appeal to your fondness of statistics he also has some of the best advanced stats on the team dispite spending most of his time on the 4th line or being paired with Handzus. He had been out of the game for two years, it's going to take a lot of time to get back to NHL speed. Most likely this entire year. Patients with Sheppad will pay off in the future, IMO.

But, to the point. Has DW done a job worthy of a top GM or should he be replaced? You have to agree he seems to take 1 step forward, then 2 steps back. :2cents:

may be, but for one big problem. He is an RFA after this year and then a UFA after next. So, if it takes his all this year to get his feet going, then the sharks will "own" him for just one more year before having to pay him full market wages and having the trade itself be worthless (next year is his 7th professional year, so that's it right?)

I guess we'll see...

Also, dougie has made good moves in the past. The jumbo trade, at the time, was by far the greatest trade in sharks history. The boyle trade was good too. Clearly, trading toskala to acquire cooch's pick was amazing. Even some of the rental trades were actually solid like brian campbell for a 1st and bernier as he was just what they needed at the time. White for a 2nd was a good one and would have been great if they had kept him. other ones like moen, huskins and moore were less so.

So dont get me wrong. Dougie is not ALL bad, but the last 2 years have been so bad and so hurtful to the franchise's future that I think it's time for a change.

Wilson's failure as a GM stem from not being able to identify the player skill sets that are needed for a winning team. His valuing of size, board work, and grit to create a possession game instead of stick work, agility, and speed are leading to the slow decline of the team. Drafting and developement of prospects are also affected negitively because of this. When it comes to aquiring players he wants and the re-signing of RFA's Wilson is second to none but until he realizes that size and strength have taken a back seat to speed and agility the team will continue to experience only mediocre success.

It is like forwards have been taught not to take it to the goal mouth and shoot. I'm also struggling to think of a dman that we developed that excels at shooting from the point.

Yep, they all skate into the zone, and then start coasting, looking to pass. Same play every single time...
I can't think of a D-man they've developed that excels at much of anything really. But yeah, they definitely have a bunch of guys that can't get it on net consistently....
