This kid looks pretty darn comfortable in the pocket. Nice arm too!

He is indeed a little bigger but the same type of guy. This guy may turn out to be pretty good. He'll start as a back-up and I think Davis' days are numbered.

He puts the ball where the receiver can catch it on the run. Lots of yards gained after the receptions.

56% completion rate;
4.7 yds/completion;
13 tds;
23 interceptions.

Those were his stats at Texas against decent college competition. Good luck.:laugh3:

I don't really see anything "special" about him. Certainly nothing reminiscent of Kurt Warner. He'll make for a decent emergency option, I suppose. But, to this point, I wouldn't look for anything more from Gilbert beyond that.

310 yards, 60%, 1 TD, 1 INT vs Texas A&M last year. His only poor game last year was against TCU.

Texas' QBs weren't much to brag about last year, by the way.

Agreed, just looking for some potential to see if he can at least become the backup eventually.

Texas A&Ms defense was bad last year.

Gilbert is a project but he has some upside for sure.

Guys, this really could be a steal. As I said in another post about this team, we look good on paper, but can we perform on the field.

I agree Rambunctious. I like his potential and he may just be our starting QB in say three or four years when Sammy is done.

I agree, TEB11. As a long suffering Rams fan, who's used to a shitload of offseason build-up, only to be let down over and over again... I'm not fully buying in until I see the production on the field.

But, honestly... this Gilbert kid isn't going to have anything to do with that either way. Not this year, at least.

I have no idea why he reminds you of Warner.

Kurt's ability to get the ball out fast was an amazing attribute he brought to the position and kind of what made him special IMO. This kid has a long ways to go. He holds onto the ball way too long (At least 4 sec or more in the film on just about every throw) He locks on to receivers at times, hit a few very late after the WR was completely wide open and every throw in this tape, that I saw, was from the shot gun. Would really like to see him take some from under center. If it's in there I didn't see it.

I hope he does push Davis however he is going to need to learn the playbook or he could get put on the PS if someone else doesn't pick him up.

Really do we carry 3 QB's on the 53 man roster with all Bradford's injury history? Maybe however we have a lot more talent on this roster (As opposed to the last 5 previous years) I'm not sure we will want to part with someone else trying to make the team to keep three QB's on the roster.

LOL to all the people comparing Gilbert to Warner... Tell me your kidding me... Go Back and watch what Bama did to him after Colt McCoy was knocked out of the game and then watch his mediocre Jr season and finally you can watch his Sr season and say he made improvement... I'll give a little for argument sake but lets not say a diamond in the ruff ... could be like warner... or any other idiotic comments...

Manzel will be like RG3 and get knocked out every season and be replaced after 5 seasons if not sooner

And tell me STLAdam that you have absolute proof that Gilbert is going to be light years away from Warner in a couple of years? Using your comparison criteria of what a player did in college, Warner was a prolific passer in a small college in Iowa but little else. By all of the experts evaluation of him at the time, he was a reach.

Didn't Warner start his NFL career by getting cut by not one but two NFL clubs (Atlanta and GB)? I think you forgot that Warner spent a number of years as a back-up and in developmental leagues before getting his chance in a system that fit his quick release. Thereafter, he stunk it up in New York because he didn't fit. Same QB as in St Louis but his career went south in New York. It took a number of years of NFL coaching and we had a superbowl/HOF QB in a couple of seasons before he left.

My point is my suggestion of being like Warner was more along the lines of physical attributes. I think I stated that I thought he is a bigger type Warner. I should have been a little more specific. By my criteria, all of our QBS have the chance of becoming great except perhaps Hill who is arguably at the end of his career.

What pisses me off about dudes like you is you make rash statements that I am idiot when you obviously haven't considered the whole picture and your basing your assertions on memory of a final product versus a kid just starting just like Warner did at one time in the past.

Vita is right, Gilbert is raw right now but the operative word is "potential" and his physical skills which the latter is the basis of nearly every player we draft these days. He does indeed hold the ball too long but with our coaching staff, he may develop just like Warner. If he doesn't develop, he'll be gone and all of this will be mute. SO chill out a bit there chief before you come flying around with adjectives. Capeeche?

To me this guy is a total waste of a draft pick. I don't think he makes the team next year. Just roster filler.
