I agree. The ass kicking happened before all the rough stuff.

The Pens got suckered in and they took the bait. Too many excuses going on. Which team was busy trying to fight while Grabner was going in on a breakaway? And that was before all the shenanigans. You might have wanted to keep an eye on Grabner during your powerplay too.

Time to man up and move on. It's that time of year again. Which means you have no time to worry about anything but getting better.

Wait a minute! Maybe last night was all karma for you guys yucking it up when Dipietro got knocked the fuck out earlier in the week. Guess it ain't so funny now...:p

Last night was an embarrassment for everyone involved. For the Penguins on the scoreboard, it was an embarrassment, but by about a quarter the way through the second period, the game of hockey ceased to exist in this one, and it became an embarrassment for the nhl. Games like this one set the league back. Notice how many highlights NHL.com is putting up on this game? none. They have one headline. Meanwhile, sports media sites across the board have this one plastered across their front pages as the bad press rolls in.

Old school hockey fans may feel like they're reliving the glory days... unfortunately, those days are over. Hockey players aren't making 20K a season, anymore. Most are making seven figures +.

I do find it odd that just last week on this site in particular if a noose and Matt Cooke's neck would have been available, he'd have been strung up the nearest cyber tree...

As opposed to this "game" where, there are fans who somehow find value in and appreciate a situation like this.

My point is the Cooke hit, the Martin assault, the Gillies elbow plus the subsequent taunt and the Haley 2 fights in the same bout are ALL BAD FOR HOCKEY.

agreed.. there is a place for games similar to the one last night, the bruins/habs 'fight' game earlier in the week was a great hockey game to watch and it had tons of fights as well.. the difference is they respected the players as people and fought face to face, gloves off.. in last night's game it was full of cheap shots by guys that have no respect for the game or the people playing it

This shit gets me fired up. Having watched a guy like Mario Lemieux go through the hack and whack era of the NHL, I know for certain that it took years off of his game.

Having witnessed a guy like Cam Neely lose everything his career had going for it because of an idiot on my favorite team felt he needed to deliver a horrible cheap shot, I just don't see the merit in appreciating anything that transpired last night.

I have no problem with the Isles feeling like they needed to answer. They most certainly did. Talbot could have been dealt with in a way that didn't involve a Bertuzzi-esque assault. Johnson certainly was made to look like an idiot as he was continuously fishing vulcanized rubber from out behind him.

But, that wasn't how they dealt with it. It turned into a cheap-shot, bush league brawl.

I don't think it was good for the game, but I do know that this shit happens from time to time in hockey. And everybody involved usually should of handled it differently.

All I know is if that was the gameplan for the Isles before the game, then it worked hardcore. You can't win any more than one game with that style nowadays, so these things usually work themselves out. Have fun, Colie...

Look, I don't mind a bad loss on the score sheet, or a physical game, but this game was sincerely an embarrassment. I'm not criticizing you for being happy, it was a good win for you guys on the score board, but don't expect anyone to respect those guys after all that crap went down. I guess I can't speak for anyone but myself though.

I respect the Isles for making a statement.

I want to see this same sentiment when Cooke makes a statement. A lot of hypocritical statements on here after this game.

Didnt say I agree with some of the things they did. I respect them for growing a sack and making a statement, after they were talked about all week. Not only did they annihilate you guys on the scoreboard, but they demolished the Penguins physically. These were gang style beatdowns... Not respectable. I am a fan of fighting, one on one.

I am fine with the fights (outside of the sucker punch and goalie attack) and the score, clearly the Pens are not even a good team right now. My issue is with the dirty hits that seems to be lauded here because it was against the Pens.

I think at first, yes, everyone is thrilled to see the Pens get their faces lumped up... But any true hockey fan, after seeing some of the cheap shots that took place last night, regardless of what team it is against, they are against it. I love to see KO's in one on one fights, never 2 on 1 or 3 on 1.

I will say I am a big fan of the massive scrums that break out into like 3 different fights. But again, one on one.

here's a real killer in the rulebook. Haley's going to rue the day...

46.19 Fines and Suspensions – Failure to Proceed Directly to Penalty Bench - Any player who, following a fight or other altercation in which he has been involved is broken up and for which he is penalized, fails to proceed directly and immediately to the penalty bench, or who causes any delay by retrieving his equipment (gloves, sticks, etc. shall be delivered to him at the penalty bench by teammates), shall incur an automatic fine of one hundred dollars ($100) in addition to all other penalties or fines incurred.

what gilles did was rediculous I can completely agree the guy should be burried in the minors for that and i dont condone those type of plays. As far as Johnson goes I have no sympathy he chose to fight and godard jumping in was like I said no different if not worse than martins sucker punch. Both teams had their moments last night and dont forget this stemmed from several previous incidents throughout the season. If anyone is to blame its the league for not properly punishing players who take liberties.Like sly said i respect the isles for making their statement.I respect fighting when its one on one.I dont respect dirty hits and I dont respect 2 players throwing punches at 1 guy.You reap what you sow drop the gloves your fair game you throw a dirty hit earlier in the season answer the bell when someone comes calling.

you kidding sly Im a firm believer in an eye for an eye.in cases like cookes hit on savard the suspension should match the amount of games lost due to the injury.

You cant have it both ways, Talbot chose not to fight and got sucker punched. Lets not act as if the Pens players were always given the choice. If your take is the Talbot hit was taking liberties then so be it. I didnt think it was all that severe of a hit, neither did the league or the officials. As for the Dipietro fight, I dont think anyone thought he was hurt and he actually started the issues at the end of that game AND was attempting to throw a punch when he got dropped.

that is absolutely WRONG.

punishment should be on the act, not the consequence.
what if you were the last person to hit Lindros?
what if you were the last person to hit DiPietro / Salo / Demitra etc?
what if your 'star' hits a scrub, and the other team keep the scrub out for months extra to increase the penalty
what if you hurt a guy, and then he hurts himself further in rehab / training / walking down the street.

in summary: worst..... idea.... ever.....

Im talking about cases like the bertuzzi incident where its cut and dry not close calls or general bad luck

I think he means for dirty hits that result in a suspension. Not clean hits where someone gets injured. I too think its a bad idea, but I dont think he means for every injury.

Wasnt all this shit from the game driven by a clean hit delivered by Talbot? There wasnt a suspension or even a penalty if I remember correctly

When did I mention Dipietro?Grasping at straws?I also didnt say what Hayley did was right but if Johnson didnt want to fight he leaves the mask on.Personally i didnt say what any of the Isles did was ok or alright I'm just saying the pens played their roles as well.
