I guess HBO is tired of losing potential profits due to Game of Thrones being the most pirated TV show in history. This is partly HBO's fault because of their long standing refusal to allow HBO programming to be included in the three main premium streaming services (Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime).

Well, HBO finally relented, and last week they signed an agreement with Amazon Prime as the exclusive premium streaming provider for HBO programming (to the chagrin of Netflix and Hulu Plus).

Amazon Prime raised their rates to $99 annually...which is only $3 more than Netflix ($96 annually). Rumor has it that Netflix is going to raise their rates soon, which will be a tough pill to swallow for customers since Netflix does not have HBO programming.

Game of Thrones wasn't part of the deal. Looks like HBO still wants to control all access to that content, even if it's the #1 pirated show each week it shows. Most likely to maintain maximum subs for it's own service.

According to Amazon, beginning on May 21, Prime subscribers will have access to:
• All seasons of: The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Rome and Six Feet Under, Eastbound & Down, Enlightened, Flight of the Conchords and others.
• HBO miniseries, including Angels in America, Band of Brothers, John Adams, The Pacific and Parade’s End
• Select seasons of some series, including Boardwalk Empire, Treme and True Blood
• A selection of HBO original movies, documentaries, and comedy specials
The biggest omission from the list is, obviously, Game of Thrones, the highly rated (for premium cable) fantasy series currently in its fourth season, which recently set a record for the largest swarm of BitTorrent users accessing a single pirated file at the same time.

You can also buy individual or entire season HD quality copies of previous GOT seasons on Itunes for download. They become available for download on Itunes for $3.99 per episode the same week the DVD/Blueray releases occur. For season 4, that means probably January 2015.

Again, this is to keep maximum subs for HBO & HBO go service. HBO obviously wants people signing up because the figure more than a few will keeps subscribing for HBO after the season is over.

Interesting piece of trivia about a couple of the Game of Thrones actresses.

As many of you probably know...Lena Headey, the actress who plays Cersei Lannister on GoT, also played Sarah Connor in the Terminator television series a few years ago.

Emilia Clarke, the actress who plays Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons on GoT, is going to play Sarah Connor in the upcoming film Terminator: Genesis.
