I am somewhat shocked and at the same time pleased that B Schenn is being benched. He has not been playing very well and not productive. Since it was somewhat assumed that either Umberger, Gagner or Vinnie would be the one to sit...Benching a player for not producing/playing both ends. See if that has an impact.

If Schenn truly is a performance based healthy scratch then it better just be a one game kick-in-the-ass kind of thing. Anything longer is ridiculous. Gotta wonder what his future is with the Flyers

In a way, I don't think this is the worst thing in the world - even if someone like Vinny isn't as good, benching Vinny won't do any good because if they keep going back to that then the better players will think they're safe - benching Brayden can have a bigger positive impact than benching one of the mediocre players

EXACTLY. This was a problem w/ Richards & Carter and co. They would take shifts/periods/games off and they knew there would be no penalty. Stevens & Lavy would not bench those too. How many times did other players get benched in favor of those two? I am not saying S Schenn is a 1st line player, but he a top six player and benching him is a bigger message than benching an energy player.

I am fine with the message being sent, but it won't help anyone if this is a long term thing. Bench him to set him straight, not to substitute him.

They had a power play and they didn't even start him out there - they had Radko Gudas with MDZ and they were with the top PP unit so that was puzzling
