Scott just made up some lines. They are pretty good and Gagne is the total opposite of the Titans when looking at them. You cant even remember him.

They still have a solid 20+ goal scorer in Malone that can compliment any of thos two as well.

I'm also a fan of their goaltending tandem.

Yeah, a lot of positives in Tampa right now. The SE division just keeps getting better and better.

Yep, Tampa Bay is going to be a tough out next season.

Gagne/Lecavalier/St. Louis
Malone/Stamkos/ any number of RW (Downie,Hall,Purcell)

Not much on the blue-line, though.

Versteeg, Big Buff are far from garbage. I agree they are not elite players, but still.

Also, chicago did a very good job on securing nice return for their players. A+

Flyers seemed to take offer #1 and run with it. F

Yea, Versteeg is pretty good. But he's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a 40 point nobody who had a good playoff run because he's 260lbs and played against small defenses and choking goalies; I'm talking about a 5th defenseman on most teams who gets paid like a #4; and I'm talking about a career fighter who got the snot beat out of him at age 23 by 42 year old Gary Roberts. Throw in a marginal prospect and you get in return a package of picks and prospects that is on par with what Atlanta got in the Kovalchuk deal. That's bullshit that the Flyers got this in return for a 1st line winger.

So happy to see him out of Philly. Even happier to see the return the Flyers got...

i didnt expect a whole lot in return for gagne.. i thought they deserved it, but when rumors of them considering waiving him surface, you cant expect a big return.. my problem is what they got in return.. why on earth did they add another d-man? they already had too much money tied up on the back end..

lets also remember that zherdev is supposed to replace gagne's offensive production (and he very well could).. and i'm guessing the hope is that the maturation of jvr and giroux can help mend the defensive hole.. not to mention they still have richards, betts, and lappy who are all very high quality PK'ers and odonnell and walker are shot blocking machines

having some cap space isn't just for the sake of having space.. call-ups reduce the cap a team faces throughout the season.. that was the problem the flyers faced when they had to sign 3 college d-men to tryout contracts just to have full rosters the last couple games a few seasons ago.. guys come off the cap when they go on LTI, but the call-ups takes money away from the cap, which could result in a player not being able to come off LTI if the cap space was small enough prior to him going on LTI.. the flyers have had the problem in the past as well.. i'm not sure what each call-up costs, and i'm sure it depends on the player, but this is something to keep in mind.. and its also a good insurance plan to have some cap space in case someone gets injured, or a move needs to be made to spark the team.. there are tons of reasons for having a little cap space going into the season

it was for cap space. all i care about is our team got better. i would have liked a good prospect or something although it would not have had an impact on our team right now.

If it was for cap space, then just trade Gagne for a 2nd or something. Don't put on Matt Walker and make the pick even less useful. I mean, I know you can get some steals in late rounds, but Gagne is worth more than a bad D man and a lotto ticket.

And yeah, our team is better overall so far this offseason, but I would argue we were better off before this trade than after. No way Gagne's value is that low. Jesus, trade him to the Wild or something, God knows they need offense but like defensive guys.

of course we are worse after this trade. gagne was gone either way though. we would not be able to have a team with him on it because of salary.

like i said, coburn might be gone. we have 8 defensemen. i would trade coburn and this is our defense.

pronger-carle
timmonen-meszaros
walker-odonnell

walker and odonnell is a much better tandem than last year.

did anybody think our team would be better after trading gagne? no. it was almost impossible.

i have not counted on gagne being here for a while now. i just think we are better than last year which is what counts.

I meant as a whole. The goaltending remains woefully the same. The third-pairing was upgraded slightly, I'll give you that, but Meszaros/OD/Walker aren't a monumental improvement from Parent/Krajicek/Bart. The forward core was downgraded. Pretty much a wash offseason if you ask me. Not saying that's a bad thing, as the team was only two-wins from the Stanley Cup, but I don't see a better club.

what? the defense was slightly upgraded? wow. we went from a middle of the road defense to a great defense. meszaros and odonnell are slightly better than parent and krejicek? meszaros and odonnell could be a second pairing on many teams. parent and krejicek can not even be a third pairing.

also, did you see our offense last year? gagne only had 20 goals so do not even say losing him was such a big hit. we only had 4 20 goal guys. we might double that this year. i think giroux, jvr, and leino improving will more than replace those goals. plus briere being a center helps. hartnell and zherdev should be 20 goal guys as well.

i have no clue how you can look at this team and say they are worse.
