Game Thread: G4 WCQF 2-1 Kings @ Oilers 4/27/25

This really caught my eye as well. This is game 4 of the series and you have a 2-1 lead in the series. This is not the Finals or even a Game 7. Even if by chance they get through this Round they are going to be completely gassed. You could see it at the end of the 3rd and OT. Sure Edmonton was flying a bit but I think it was equal parts that along with Kings nothing left in the tank.

I don't really understand the Spence benching, he has been a mainstay all season and then you bench him to play Moverare for 2 minutes? Makes no sense.

I think the Helenius line should've gotten a lot more time to give the Top 9 some more rest. They don't feel like a complete liability out there and might bring some energy in the form of physical play and they spend their fair share of time in the offensive zone.

I usually check in on this show. Nothing crazy, but he does a good job or sort of fielding emails and comments to see what the overall mood is. I think he nails it with this being an actual fan vs leaning into his media credentials. Like how media people don't usually want to rock the boat and piss off the people they work with/for.

Just watched this on the drive to and from taking kids to school, spot on. Things have got to change tonight.

Also a bummer about the Reign but with guys graduating and having Mallott up here, who was a key cog in Ontario, not really surprised.

He also confirmed what I believed a few years ago, Fagemo will not be back in LA. Free agent and will move on, don't know why Kingsters were so high on this guy. Arty Retardy 2.0.

I rip on Glass Boy but he is always a better option that HOS 2.0. Maybe he would have had some jump in this game. Or he would get checked and be out for the remainder of the POs, your guess is as good as mine.

Hiller is getting roasted everywhere. Spittin' Chiclets even said they've been hearing about Hiller dropping down to 9 forwards and basically 4 defensemen for the 3rd. Maybe they're just exhausted. But definitely roasting him continuing to come out and play in a shell. The only dude I saw defend him in any capacity was Jesse Cohen and Eddie Garcia (To a much lesser degree). Jess was noting that they've also shutdown Kuzmenko in the 3rd, so really they're running 8 forwards in the 3rd. But that Jesse guy was saying Hiller has run a lot of nontraditional stuff this year, citing the 11-7 and even the 5 forward PP. So his point was it's been 3 close games, with Kings dominating the outlier game. Overall, it's been "working". And Kings have their home record, so there's that. Just giving you the counterargument.

To the rest of us, it feels like Hiller being so stubborn and shortening his bench way too much. Not playing sustainably winning hockey.

Jesse asks honestly, why is the Kings record better at home vs the road, and Garcia notes what Jim Fox said. Kings style takes so much energy to defend, that they get that extra little boost playing at home. At least that's Jim Fox's theory.

Lol close games so its been working??? The fuck that dude talking about? Kings were steamrolling every game untill they shut down the 3rd and then they get worked and let the miracles happen. Ya you shut down Kuz in the 3rd, hes gotten the puck the few times they made it to the ozone looking for someone to pass to to attack and you can see the light go on in his head like "oh shit im not supposed to be this far up" thrn panic, not know what to do and 1 time he literally skated back toward center with the puck and dumped it back behind him and went for change.

Yes they are tired from the short bench, No they are not tired from their style of play.... They are.
Tired because they have to fight the 4. Check every single time when they play back like that. It's exhausting. The defense has nothing to do except fight. Fight fight just to get a Puck and no time to move it.

Jill with his "if we get a bounce or bang it off the other side of post or buster chips it out and its a different conversation" BS just pisses me off even more....if you just keep playing your game the oil probably dont get 3 or 4 gosls per 3rd period either fuck face and you win that way.

I mean what a shithead, fuck I really hate this guy now. Who knows at what point the lineup just unravels during their own game....that will be sweet when that happens, then Jill can say see!!!
