From ESPN NHL Rumors...
Marty Turco and Evgeni Nabokov were both left on the market at the end of Thursday night, and there's been little buzz of where they might go. But ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun tweets that he thinks the Philadelphia Flyers will come back and target one of these goalies at some point.
The number of suitors for Nabokov, arguably the top goalie on the market, is slim. Right now, the Flyers may be the only team still looking to fill a starting goalie vacancy and, if this drives down Nabokov's earnings too much, he might opt to go to the KHL.
Meanwhile, Turco might come at a cheaper price for the Flyers. GM Paul Holmgren already tried negotiating with both players but he may have predicted that they would still be unsigned after the first wave of free agent went off the market. So perhaps the Flyers will lowball one of these goalies to play in front of the recently re-sign Michael Leighton.
Keep in mind, however, that the Flyers are right up against the cap. So if they want to bring in one of these guys, they might have to trade someone, maybe Jeff Carter. And the market for Carter might heat up since the only big-time forward that hit the market was Ilya Kovalchuk, and most teams don't want to pay his asking price.
