Yeah, it sure seems like there are more than that. There may be a few more this year because I have seen them call some based on the new rule change that would have been considered "broken up" in the past.
I haven't had the chance to dive into any DP numbers, but I honestly would have expected something like 3-4 a game.

But just looking at Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell's career numbers (most DP's as a duo in MLB history) and they had 1500+ and 1300+ in their 19 and 20 year careers. My assumptions weren't very good.

I think it could be a combination of the two, but there's no question in my mind that the modern day pitcher's approach has a lot to do with it.
I was making conversation with that statement, mostly.

A number of things at play. But I do think modern hitters take striking out at alarming rates a bit lightly.

It was .7 per 9 but that is 1.4 per game...

so we still can expect 2 per game...
