It's official, he's gone

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher has agreed to become the new head coach at Texas A&M sources have told the Tallahassee Democrat.

He will not coach the Seminoles against Louisiana-Monroe at noon on Saturday. Odell Haggins will be the interim head coach

So does Tennessee try and go after Sumlin now? I really think of any coach right now that's a good fit for Tennessee and that's not saying Tennessee is this special school where it needs a special coach. That's saying that Tennessee right now should be in rebuild mode and might want to hire a non-big name coach maybe? IDK. Just a thought.
They talked to Sumlin yesterday and he isn’t interested

This is still a very strange occurrence.

I think this is the end of Jimbo as a top end coach. He really just committed career suicide. If he doesn't win and win BIG at A&M, I don't see any major programs taking a risk with him. And he's choosing to do it against Saban.......

Something else had to be going on behind the scenes at FSU that we don't know about yet.
Like I said earlier. A&M is investing in its football program and following the Alabama road map to success.

Which is exactly why all FSU fans should be thrilled this dude is leaving. Top 5 recruiter, but he has severely underachieved with the talent he gets year after year. He caught lightning in a bottle with Jameis, who saved his ass 29 games in a row.

Yep...

I've said the same thing in different threads on this board for the past two months.
He is not an excellent x and o man. He's a paint-by-the-number coach who is predictable
as hell.

Now we have to right the ship. If we can get an above average recruiter and an above
average coach, we'll come out ahead on this deal.

If the guy we get is an excellent x and o man...we'll be contending next year with 10 returning
starters on offense. BUT, that guy could have immediate success and if he is weak at recruiting
we could have issues his third or fourth year. We'll deal with that then.

Once the unknown is taken care of (new coach)...we will proceed forward. We won't have any
problems having people interview for the job. We just need to move quickly and ensure our
recruiting class.

We won't have to put up with his yearly whining about money anymore. That's a good thing.

He will be remembered as an ICON at Florida State. Sort of...

In his words..." I con(ned) FSU for 8 years."

Well, congrats to the Aggys for getting him.

Let's see what you all do. Next year's team might be brutal defensively with your losses on the DL. Jimbo has his work cut out for him.

IMO the die was cast when he started whining this year about facilities hurting recruiting. It might have carried more weight if he wasn't coming off five straight years of finishing no lower than 11th in the country.

Facilities aren't the reason he as a supposed QB guru whiffed on JJ Consentino and why he as a HC whiffed on the characters of John Franklin, De'Andre Johnson and Malik Henry. That's on him and that's why he had to rely on a true freshman QB after Francois went down.

Thanks...I guess.

It's a reported 10 year $75 mill. He better pan out or we are stuck with his a$$. The buyout will be too big to get rid of him if he doesn't.:drink:

Well he's the richest coach in the NCAA now so, ya know, that's a good reason to leave.

l have a feeling this will not end well for Fischer or Tamu

I think a lot of Aggy fans feel the same. Guys hired under these kind of circumstances are placing a very LARGE bet on a winning, but questionable, coach.

If this blows up it could be the end for both his career and A&M at trying to get over the mediocrity they are always mired in.

Either way I think they're in for a helluva ride

well, there is no way to buy him out if he fails. Guess we can hope he calls escorts on his work phone, or crashes his Harley with his side chick like those other coaches we know.:bounce:

FSU is the new Florida :pound:

Miami back to being top dog in the state. Who would have thought that would happen 5 years ago?

So, this is the first head coach FSU will have to hire since 1976.

Don't fuck it up.

Looks like he pulled a Petrino and just slipped out the door without saying anything to his players.
