Khabibulin to Chicago for 1 year $2M

I don't understand this move at all...from both sides.

Now, let's get this straight. Ray Emery moves to Philly for $1.65 million. He states he wanted to go there because he wants to be the starter again and he knew he couldn't be that in Chicago.

So, the Hawks sign Nikolai Khabibulin as the backup for one year at $1.7 million plus incentives that could bring him to $2 million.

First off, Emery is NOT going to be the starter for the Flyers. We all know that Steve Mason will be the starter. And pretty sure we all know that Emery won't be as successful with the Flyers as he was with the Hawks. Flyers defense is not as solid as in Chicago and personally, Emery while good, is not great. He's slow to react at times and once down he's slow to get back up. His rebound control is worse than Crawford's. That being said, I would have liked to see Razer back in Chicago as Corey's backup once again.

Second, he apparently took less dollars to play "starter" minutes than he would have gotten in Chicago and had the chance to go deep in the playoffs yet again. Pretty sure the Hawks were offering more than $1.65 million a year if they signed Habby for $2 million.

From the Hawks fan's perspective, why would the Hawks want a 40 year goalie as the backup? Everyone in Chicago's guess seems to be that it's just a bridge until Finnish goalie MVP Antti Raanta has a year of AHL hockey behind him.

I'm just hoping that the Khabibulin signing isn't Mary Turco...Take 2.

stockpiling paesanos so Luongo feels comfortable coming back. :noidea:

think I wanted him in a Florida trade package for Luongo at some point, but now I don't remember why
oh - he got 20 goals in his first year in FLA. then.... nothing. (hey, kind of like David Booth)

Joe Yerdon says Santorelli is a replacement for Lapierre ... errr ... not so much ... probably Ebbett is a better comparable

and theres this ...

Santorelli is 10-for-19 in his career in shootouts

in shootouts sure ... and without the spinerama MayRay has been neutered ... although Lappy was pretty good in shootouts too

its marginal tinkering in the bottom 6 and it doesnt hand us the cup (lol) but Ill call Richardson/Santorelli an upgrade over Lapierre/Ebbett at centre

yeah I was just kidding. this is pretty much what we all expected from the team with the cap. in all it would be great if luongo didnt report got suspended we sucked and got a top 3 pick next year :D

i doubt they would end up with a top 3 pick in that scenario ... not with the sedins on the team ... maybe they trade them to get there????

didnt think sedins would test free agency or consider going to another team as ufa's but with what alfie did all bets are off now
