Brian Bassett:

Next stop for LaRon Landry is #Niners on Thursday should he not strike a deal today with the #Colts.

Jason La Canfora: S LaRon Landry, commanding a lot of interest, scheduled to fly to San Fran tonight after meeting w/Colts ... Assuming he doesnt sign in IND

San Francisco wants to make certain it manages its salary cap well, as key players approach new contracts over the next few years, including wideout Michael Crabtree, linebacker Aldon Smith, quarterback Colin Kaepernick and offensive linemen Mike Iupati and Anthony Davis.

yep, next few years will be much tougher retaining our own. if Kap continues his pace - nothing to indicate he won't - he'll command a HUGE contract alone.

And yet you want to consider using a first round pick on a QB. Doesn't this seem even a little inconsistent to you, Deep?

i'd hate to see what he's going to get paid! the most i'd do for him is 2M a year for 2/3 years max...we'd be much better off going with a rook or our current backups rather than spend more than that. the guy is just a touch better than taylor mays IMO.

hopefully all this interest in other safeties is just posturing bc we think goldson wants to be back with the niners. If the niners are offering 6.5-7M i could see him coming back even if the bucs offer 8. competing for super bowls and being in the limelight that comes with it might be more important to goldson than most people think. With team success, comes individual awards and this has been particularly true for goldson. plus goldson has always been a west coast guy...born and raised in cali, went to UW, drafted by Niners...would be nice to stay out here and cash in on hometown endorsements. i'm probably wrong, but it's something to keep in mind i guess

And Cardinals reached an agreement in principle on a one-year deal with former Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall.

And as far as Miami free-agent cornerback Sean Smith ... The 49ers showed interest in the big (6-3, 218-pound) cornerback in the run-up to free agency, but they are not believed to be one of the teams hotly pursuing Smith now. Astute 49ers followers might recall that this is how the team approached the cornerback market in 2011: They expressed interest in several top names, waited until the market had cooled and then snagged Carlos Rogers.

Roy Cummings:

FA S Dashon Goldson's visit with the Bucs has moved into the contract negotiating stage, per agent Ben Dogra. A deal may be next

Usually they're close or very optimistic if the agent is willing to confirm.

That means he's become too rich for our blood.

I don't want another Carlos Rogers since we already have a Carlos Rogers on the team. If we do go FA CB it needs to be someone with some impact and not just another #2 guy since we have a secondary loaded with #2 to #3 type guys.
