The Miami Dolphins (8-7) are entering the great unknown during their regular-season finale. It could be their final game of the season or lead into a wild-card game if the Dolphins get some help.
With that said, let’s take a look at eight key Dolphins who are entering free agency and may play their final game with the team Sunday against the New York Jets (7-8).
• CB Brent Grimes
• DT Paul Soliai
• DT Randy Starks
• OT Bryant McKinnie
• OT Tyson Clabo
• G Richie Incognito
• G John Jerry
• S Chris Clemons
Analysis: There are a lot of starters in this group. The biggest priority is Grimes; he was Miami's top defensive player this year and proved his worth. The Dolphins need to sign Grimes to a long-term extension or at least use their franchise tag to keep him in the fold.
Miami also is long overdue for major changes on its struggling offensive line. Center Mike Pouncey is the only starter under contract next year, and there's a good chance he could be playing with four new linemen in 2014. Incognito definitely is not returning after Miami's bullying scandal. The Dolphins also could go younger at offensive tackle and move on from Clabo and McKinnie. John Jerry is an average guard who doesn't quite fit Miami's zone-blocking scheme.
The Dolphins will most likely choose between Soliai and Starks. Both are productive, but Soliai is the better fit as a run-stuffer.
This is a bit more of a different perspective on the Fins FA situation. I think the Fins should prioritize Grimes,Solai,Starks and Clemons. Franchise one of them and do your best to work deals with the others.
