The Repubs objection struck me as odd from the start. Why did they think having a supreme court seat up in a Dem primary year was good for them? When there's little reason for Repubs to be out voting during primaries, they're more likely to stay home.

The Repubs did the same thing in NC in 2012 - except it worked in their favo(u)r - when they put NC's gay marriage ban (fun fact, we were the last state to vote to be on the wrong side of history ) on the ballot during primary. Knowing that it was a contested Repub primary, they knew they'd get better turnout.
