Is it weird that we live in a world where John Roberts is now the centrist swing vote?

I can't tell if he's moved more towards the center - for example, he voted against same-sex marriage but for this week's LGBT decision - or if the rest of the conservative bloc has just moved away from him.

I'm not sure either, but two things need to happen:

1. RBG needs to stay alive until early November
2. Trump needs to be voted out of office so he can't appoint any more Supreme Court judges

At least through January I would say. Moscow Mitch has already said he'd have no issue ramming another SC nomination through. I'm pretty sure that even if Trump lost in November and the R's lose their majority in the Senate, he'd have no qualms about trying to get it through, despite it being a lame duck president with a lame duck Senate.

That would leave us (again) hoping for some R dissenters, needing 4 since lame-duck Pence would still get to cast the deciding vote. So then you've probably got Romney and possibly Murkowski and then...maybe Tim Scott and...I have no idea.
