Urkie, I think that the league is just very sensitive towards headshots and that's the reason for the fine. However, if that's the case, shouldn't Mark Fistic be fined for this elbow to the melon of Johan Franzen?

Absolutely dash. That was worse then what Foligno did but since TSN didn't whine about it, nothing was done about it.

To me though, Foligno didn't hit Dwyer from the blind side. Pretty soon hitting somebody at all is going to warrant a suspension...

clean hit. Dwyer had the puck, and it was a shoulder.
gotta keep your head up.

Totally avoidable hit to the head.

It was but more because of the pass that set the hit up. What's Foligno supposed to do? Let Dwyer go? He had his head down coming out of his zone.

I see the blindside hit more as coming from outside of a players field of vision. Meaning, there is no way they could have seen the guy coming. In this case Dwyer could have seen him coming if he had his head up.

Hey!!!

Let's not say things we can't take back, Dash!

Seriously though, this was quite simply the right HOCKEY play for Foligno to make. I might try an NHL career if all I have to do is skate around leading with my head and eyes on the puck.

This hit was in no way outside of normal competitive action and was in no way predatory.

Bad plays and passes need to be punished.

The hit was clean. It wasn't even really a hit, as Foligno appeared to me to be attempting to play the puck and the contact was the result of two players reaching the puck at about the same time.

Looked pretty clean to me. It doesn't even look like the Canes took exception to it from that clip.
