The entire life of the rookie contract is 5 yrs. First 4 yrs guaranteed with team option 5th yr pick up non-negotiable or voided out for the player to become a FA.
No, it’s four years and the team has the right to extend it a year or keep the original 4 year contract. Look at the CBA agreement it says rookie 1st sign 4 year deals and will wait and see if the original 4 year deal is extended. Because the CBA says a team has the rights to a player for an extra year doesn’t mean they sign a 5 year deal.

They sign for four years and usually that’s all it is.
