This is shocking - the Flyers can't be done - I think they're going to try and move RJ to a team that has a ton of cap space, so they can clear that salary
If they're simply done, Hextall is on crack. Both have bad contracts, but...yeah...Umberger was a fourth line scrub by the end of the season in CBJ.
I think you have to look at the fact that Hartnell's contract is two years longer than R.J's. Hartnell is the better player, but the Flyers have some key players to sign, and getting out of those last couple of years of Hartnell's contract is a good move.
Don't both teams still have amnesty buyouts? If so I thought both Hartnell and RJ qualified to be bought out?
I am surprised either team would make this deal instead of using the buyout.

Flyers already used their compliance buyouts on Danny B and Bryz
I understand the length of the contract as an argument most certainly...but I really don't think Umberger brings much to the table.
Well he didn't get a whole lot of playing time in CBJ as time goes on, and most of the teams he played on there were horrible until just recently, so I'd give him a pass

Yeah he will be a high paid 4th liner but thats what Hartnell is becoming also. The help for the Flyers is the fact RJ is a center, they get a 4th round pick next year and two years less.
I don't understand CBJ's standpoint when they could have just bought out RJ. Is Hartnell worth that much for 5 years?
They can't buyout Hartnell in the future because they didn't give him that deal, right? The Jackets were going to buyout RJ, but turned him into a better player. That's a good day for them.
