Obviously everybody focuses on Carter and Richards, so I'll skip them.

I think the Leino and Versteeg departures will hurt more than people think. You're talking 53 and 46 points, respectively (though Versteeg's production down the stretch after the trade wasn't what they would have liked obviously).

Talbot, although a SC hero, has a career high of 26, and Schenn is obviously a mystery given his grand total of 9 NHL games to date.

Voracek and Simmonds should be great additions though.

Net though, I think more points walked out the door than came in, so the key will be whether Philly can successfully re-position themselves as a D first team they'll be OK.

Of course, the selfish opinion in me hopes they finish poorly, or at least below the Sabres

i think verseeg's departure will have 0 effect on the team to be honest.. he really did nothing for the flyers.. i think he had like 13 points in like 40 games with the team (including playoffs).. shame, i was really excited when they traded for him.. i think he can be a very good player, but he just wasn't for the flyers

leino.. leino is such a wild card to me.. if he plays like he did in the playoffs 2 years ago, he's a HUGE loss and a HUGE gain for buffalo.. but if he plays like he did for most of last year, i dont think he's a big loss either.. his hip issues are a big issue and when thyre bothering him he is not a presence on the puck, and when he isn't a presence on the puck, he doesn't do anything for you.. his only real valuable asset is the ability to skate around the offensive zone without giving up the puck, but when his hip flares up, he falls more often then not when he tries to control the puck.. when on, he's a puck control master with above average vision that you can run your offense through.. but as a flyer i'd say he was only on for about 40-50% of the games.. he's really boom or bust, you either notice him as your most dangerous offensive player, or his name doesn't called the entire game

Richards and Carter seem like the only significant loses. All that did was give more playing time to the other young stars. I don't really see a decline.

Honestly. I totally agree with this post 100%.

Losing Richards and Carter will definatley hurt to begin the season, but I think the Flyers will be a lot better down the stretch.

You get Schenn, Voracek, Jagr, Talbot, Bryzgalov, Lilja, and Simmonds.
You give up Richards, Carter, Leino, Boucher, O'Donnell, Carcillo, Powe, and Versteeg.

They got better in net, stayed the same on D, and revamped the O. Adding Simmonds and Talbot brings a level of intensity the Flyers lacked last year. I think the season depends on how well Bryzgalov, Schenn, and JvR play.

These are the the only concerns I have:
-JvR not being the JvR from the play-offs
-Bryz being mediocre
-Schenn not playing well in his first season.

I think the Flyers are a play-off team and can do some damn good damage during this post-season.

I think Versteeg could have been good for Philly over a full season. He didn't gel with the team right away, but I think in the absence of guys like Carter and Richards, where Versteeg would be expected to play a larger role, he could have been good. But yeah, I see your point about him given that he didn't do much for Philly in his time there anyhow.

Well with a healthy Pronger and help from the other Dmen we should be better on D as well!

Leino, yes that one hurts. He was very solid though he struggled for the late stretch. Still, he is very good and will be missed.

Verteeg, whoa there! He provided nothing to us, and this is coming from one of the few who did not hate him. He couldn't score, and when he did they were not great goals. He provided very little and losing him means absolutely nothing to us. I feel he would have improved a bit this year, but with simmonds and voracek good riddance.

pretty much this on versteeg.. he could have been a useful asset for the team this season, but replacing what he did for the team last year is about as easy and plugging in a lamp

Versteeg I wanted to like so bad because he has so much energy but does nothing but make bad plays!

Even if our D sags behind, we have a #1 goalie. I think our PK ha stayed the same, our PP has improved with the (Hopeful) emergence of JVR and Giroux along with Jagr and Voracek. We still are not a tough team that, which concerns me. However I dont think Boston beating us up why why we got swept. Thomas showed what a #1 goalie does to a team that cant score.

I think they'll finish in the 5 to 7 range. They're counting on a lot of young forwards & with all the new faces it's going to take some time to gel. The defense will be solid, but not spectacular by any means. They really need Pronger to stay healthy all season & the playoffs.

Bryzgalov is an upgrade no question about it. However, teams have had all summer to watch what the Red Wings did in the playoffs. The Red Wings have owned Bryzgalov during his career. I'm sure every other team in the league is taking notes.

Shit...imo, there are just too many "if" and "buts" to give a fair estimate.

If the chemistry mixes well....2-4 seed.

If it doesn't....4-7.

I'll take a 4-7 if they don't have good chemistry. I don't see that as a bad thing. I think we can be anywhere from 4-10. We just won't know.

That said, I predict we finish top 16 in the East.
