Game Time: 4:00pm EST/1:00pm PST - FS-West/NHLN-US

FLYERS (26-23-6) at KINGS (30-20-6)

TV: NHLN-US, CSN-PH, FS-W

Last 10: Philadelphia 3-5-2; Los Angeles 3-6-1

Season series: It's the first time the teams have played since Oct. 15, 2011, and the Philadelphia Flyers' first visit to the Los Angeles Kings since Dec. 30, 2010.

Big story: Kings defenseman Robyn Regehr will play in his 1,000th NHL game Saturday. That Regehr has lasted as long as he has playing his physical style is the most impressive thing to Kings coach Darryl Sutter.

"Robyn's played a defensive, shut-down, stay-at-home guy and he has been able to have success at that," Sutter said. "Quite honest, there's not that many of them guys left in the game or coming into the game strictly because the rules affected that player so much," Sutter said. "So the guys that had the hockey IQ to adjust to the rules stayed in it. The guys that didn't are out. That's probably a testament [to him] more than anything. "

The Flyers continue a three-game California trip looking to improve on the start, a 5-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday.

"I'm definitely pleased with the effort," coach Craig Berube said. "Guys competed hard. That's a very good team over there and we played with them. But it's not good enough. You can say what you want but we've got to win hockey games."

Team Scope:

Flyers: Philadelphia has the most power-play opportunities in the NHL heading into the weekend. However, the Flyers haven't been the only ones getting opportunities when the opposition gets a man down.

The Flyers allowed the Anaheim Ducks' Daniel Winnik to score what ended up being the game-winning goal when the Ducks were shorthanded. Saku Koivu tipped a pass by Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen and started a 2-on-1 break with Winnik that resulted in Philadelphia surrendering its League-high ninth shorthanded goal of the season.

There are a number of reasons, among them the Flyers generally using one defenseman and four forwards when they have the advantage, and using an umbrella formation which leaves one player high in the offensive zone.

Berube said whatever the reason, there needs to be better execution when the team has the advantage.

"There's always something that can be done," he told reporters. "The setup sometimes, if you don't execute, they are going to get odd-man rushes. We got to do a better job of executing."

Kings: A lot has changed for Jeff Carter since June 23, 2011, so facing the Flyers for the first time since the team traded him has lost a lot of the emotional sizzle for him.

"Obviously you look at it when the schedule came out or whatever, but once you get out there it's just another game," Carter told the Courier-Post. "It's a big game for us. We've been throwing away some points so we need to get a win."

The Flyers traded Carter to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and later in the 2011-12 season he was dealt to the Kings, where he was reunited with former Flyers teammate Mike Richards, whom the Flyers sent to the Kings the same day Carter was traded. The Kings capped the season by winning the Stanley Cup.

"It was three years ago," Carter said. "I moved on pretty quick. It all worked out."

Who's hot: Flyers captain Claude Giroux has eight points in his past seven games. … Kings forward Anze Kopitar has scored the team's past three goals, spread across five games.

Injury report: The Flyers are fully healthy. … Kings defenseman Alec Martinez (elbow) is out.

So Flyers shutout the Kings 2-0

Steve Mason was stellar, 35-13 shot advantage for the Kings but the Flyers played very aggressive
