We also have to keep in mind guys about next offseason. I dont have the guys off the top of my head but I know we need to resign Giroux and Shenn plus others

I know they are all rich. Still, that has to be tough I'd think. Of course, I'm thinking of the NFL and MLB athletes when drawing this conclusion. Hockey players may look at this different?

It's actually one of the things I really like about hockey. But I think the difference is the salaries have risen quite a bit every year. When briere signed his 6 mil deal it was insane amounts of money. Now we see 3 or 4 every offseason.

Plus, rfa's don't have much power over it. In order to offer sheet an rfa that's super expensive you gotta give up 3 or maybe even 4 first round picks. Nobody wants to do that so the player either takes arbitration that results in a one year contract, or they sign long term for less. Hockey players seem more concerned with stability then the dollar amount. (perhaps cause its such a long an arduous season your family has to live with you. In other sports you could 'live' in another city easy enough I would think? Thinking nfl primarily)

He talked about signing parise. I would love that. He's one of my favorite non-flyers.

Great article! I really have been thinking about this quite a bit. I maybe in the minority on this. First, I think I'd rather push for Weber than Suter. If we can't get neither. Instead of paying huge bucks for Parise, I'd look at a tough and gritty guy like a Paul Gaustad. He would fit very well in Philly. Great face-off guy and a tough dude. Friends with Briere. Cost much less than mentioned above. Trade JVR and move up in draft and get our dman. Resign Carle for less than market value. One option of many, but I kind of like this. Free up some cap space and we can have some money tucked away for another move if neccessary.

It was good. If Suter re-signs with Preds, try to trade for Weber. Some good insights about Carle, too. I read another article that said Grossmann has a knee injury, as well as Timmonen, and with the Mez thing, our Dmen were banged up. Carle is durable, and he's 27, so he's in his prime years for a blueliner.

I am pretty sure he is a center and thats the spot of depth. We need wingers and dmen. I think Danny plays better at center than wing. We have G, DB. Couts, Talbot and Schenn. Even with Schenn at wing we are deep. I dont want Couts on 4th line.

I keep hearing articles about the possibility of trading Patrick Kane. What do you guys think? Flyers have plenty of offense but could use an elite winger. Should Philly just focus on defense? Is Kane too much of a partier and lockerroom cancer (like Carter & Richards)?

This. As Meltzer said, Schenn is physical and skilled on the forcheck. Playing on the wing allows him to do this more often. He's only going to get better at it too. Put him out there and let him shine!

I'm good with this for now but if he matures into a solid two-way player like Richards then I want him at center. Briere might be done by that point anyways though.
