AP Source: Florida, Miami may play on Aug. 24
That would give both teams, if it is approved, an advantage for the season.
It would give each an extra open date and an extra week of practice.
Teams are allowed 29 practices before their first game. There is no advantage
in not playing on the first week of the season. It actually becomes a disadvantage.
(You don't get extra time by not playing on the 1st weekend, you lose a week plus
you lose an open date)
By playing a week earlier than everybody else, you gain a week of reps and an open
date.
It will be interesting to see how the NCAA rules on this.
