Yep. I really wish that there was a store close to me that would let you mix and match six packs. I found one, but it's on t'other side of Astoria and I'd have to lug it home on the bus or drive there, making it cost even more. The stores within walking distance of home have pretty good selections, they just don't let you mix.
I'll do that every now and again but just six beers isn't too big of a leap of faith. If I really don't like it I'll just keep it around to offer to company lol.

I tried Terrapin Pumpkinfest & was surprised at how good it was. Normally I'm not a fan of flavored beers either, but I liked that one, as well as Three Taverns Feest Noel. Both are local GA microbrews.

I'm not a stout drinker, but I don't care about being virile anyway.

I find it hard to limit myself to specific styles (or to say that certain styles are no good). It all depends on my mood. And drawing a line in the sand to say "I hate all X kinds of beer" is just ridiculous.

Deano, what about beers aged in bourbon barrels? Is that a "flavored" beer?

As far as more affordable everyday drinkers, Ballast Point has Grapefruit Sculpin out now and it's delicious. It's a nice fruity IPA (fruity hop character I mean) with grapefruit added. Citrus always works well with a hoppy beer.

This shit is awesome. Been drinking it all week. I came into this thread with that beer in mind.

It's a shame you lost your license and are now limited to walking distance.

Interesting question.

I confess to little experience there, since they tend to price upwards of my cheap price range. I suspect they would be acceptable by my rules, but I don't really want to make exceptions.

If I want bourbon and beer, they come separately at the fire company.

You're out on the peninsula, right? If you have a good liquor store out there that also carries some good craft beer, see if they have anything from Fremont Brewing. Bourbon Abominable (B-Bomb) is their barrel aged winter ale. It's a big beer but among the best barrel aged beers in the country IMO. Anyway, this year they released a Coffee Cinnamon version of it and it's absolutely delicious. They run about $17 a bottle for a 22oz so pricey for the everyday beer, especially if it's just something you're looking to try. Looks like this:

Okay, so I got some Dark Star, but it's Bourbon Barrel Aged Oatmeal Stout because it's all they had.

I had no idea what I was in for. So many different flavors going on, and after getting used to the sweetness, I think it's amazing. Chocolate, vanilla, and especially BOURBON flavor for me. So good.

I am going to double my effort to find Abominable. Cannot wait

Is that your picture or a stock photo from online? If that's yours you got the Spice Wars variant. Still a great beer, but IMO my least favorite among the normal Barrel Aged Dark Star (Black wax), and the Coffee version (Blue wax). The sweetness, which you mentioned, while present in any imperial stout, is even higher in the spice wars version.

If you have a place that had this beer, definitely ask them about Bourbon Abominable. They should get an allocation of that as well. It's a similar label, though with a sasquatch instead of a dragon, and red wax. If by any chance they have the gold wax version of that, the coffee/cinnamon B-Bomb, don't pass it up. It's ridiculous.

I'll probably be chastised for this I'm sure but there's a few flavors of Leinenkugel beers that I like: Berry Weiss, Sunset Wheat and Summer Shandy.

Got some of this since I'm trying flavored beers and stuff.

Pretty high alcohol content at 7.9%. Tastes like Raspberry pretty strongly, but is not sweet at all. Not worth the money to me, but not bad.

PM me your address and I'll send you the coffee cinnamon version before it's gone forever. I agree the base B-bomb is amazing but the CC version is even better IMO.

I've heard nothing but great things. Haven't seen it around yet though.

I just read this:
One of the many benefits of our new facility in Parkesburg is the freedom to experiment on styles such as the Kirsch Gose – the first of several sour beers to come from Victory in 2015. Kirsch Gose is a refreshing, pleasantly sour, German-style wheat ale brewed with tart cherry juice.
