Rangers aren't going to win anything with Trouba as their captain.

Easy to pile on now and they did go 7 games but there's some uncertainty moving forward for the Rangers. Igor will keep them in the mix but Tarasenko and Kane were total duds. Lafreniere and Kakko so far seem like second liners on a good day. Kreider, Mika and Panarin aren't old but they're all over 30.

Looking at the Metro division and the Devils are well positioned to be near the top for a long time moving forward.

The Penguins are old and unless a new GM works magic they have no hope.
Capitals made some moves to position to get back in the playoffs next year.
Flyers are crap and will be crap as long as Torts is their coach.
Isles are in limbo like the Pens but might be in a little better standing.
Canes will need more offense at some point.
Blue Jackets, if the young players pan out they could compete with the Devils.

Maybe seeing a trend where the older talented core might still get you in but won’t make you a serious contender. And maybe that’s just always been the case but we just kind of ignore it.

Might be something to starting to look at trading guys more as they push 30 and maybe take a season or two on pause to get a little younger. For teams like the Pens, Caps, Boston, now NYR etc. sticking with the old guard seems to be having consequences.

Why is there a sucker punch video every year when the Rangers lose?

What else is he supposed to do here, Dustin? How about not hitting a guy so hard that it could end his career. Also, I don't really care if people want to split hairs on whether or not the head is the principal point of contact, Meier's head received significant trauma when it was not necessary. Lastly, if McDavid gets hit like this, Dustin would be calling for Trouba to be sent to Gitmo.

Funny I totally forgot to mention the Rangers but they are in that same boat as the Isles.

Is it too early to assign the bust label to Lafreniere? Still yet to hit 20 goals or 40 points in a NHL season. He failed to record a single point in the series against the Devils.
