You have 2 good perimeter defenders and 1 of them is 6’2” and coming off a season where he played miserably.

Those 2 are probably combining for less than 55 minutes.

LeBron or Kuzma are going to have to guard 1 of those guys for extended stretches.

My point though, is that the Lakers will have defensive matchup issues with almost every team in the NBA. The Clippers should be one of the best defensive teams in the league. Their matchup issues with AD are not as difficult to figure out as it will be for the Lakers to figure out their matchup problems with almost everyone.

Javale and Dwight are not good defenders in the modern game guarding in space.

The Lakers issue is that they are big and slow.

And if Green and Bradley are both playing starters minutes, that means either somebody like Kuzma isn’t, or the Lakers are going small a lot.

And we both know that Kuzma is going to play a lot. McGee and Howard are going to play a lot because AD does not want to play too much 5. So is Rondo.

Their lineup with what should be their best players is:

LeBron
Green
Kuzma
AD
And either McGee or Howard

Bradley is probably going to play about 20 minutes a game when everyone is healthy. Maybe not even that.

Yeah Javele is FAR from a good defensive player. He can block shots but that's about it. There is much more to defense. It's like saying a guy who can steal the ball but do nothing else on defense a good defender.

Yeah Lakers fans should be happy if they're a middle of the road defensive team.

I can think of more than 10 teams that's hands down will likely be better

If they can be at about 15 or so defensively, they'll have a good shot at a title because of their offense.

I think they'll be able to play top 10 level defense in spurts (closing out games). But no, they aren't going to be top 10 for the season.

I have a feeling they're a lot better defensively than a lot of people thing. Good chance i'm wrong but I like to be optimistic.

Javale's defensive rating had him ranked 14th among players last season
