Good 1st inning … we hung a 4 spot on them.

Rally killer was Haniger (DH?) strikes out to end the inning.

What’s the over - under on how many goose eggs we hang on the scoreboard before our next run this game?

I say 5

The front office knew the fan base was used to seeing him fail

Very likely that’s one of the primary reasons they brought him back

It’s a tossup which Mitch I like best:

.191 Mitch

Or busted left nut Mitch laying in a hospital bed

Can the M’s request to play the Angels every game from now on….or maybe ask for the whole AL West.

They chase the kid in his first start after 3 innings on 4 runs.
His replacement has given up 6 through 5 so far.

You would think that at least one time, when the Mariners win, the Atros could accomodate us with a losss. But, nooooooooo. But, one more Mariner win or Astros loss and the meekly Ms are guaranteed a tie going into the All Star break. I guess that would kill a lot of people's AS predictions, including mine.

I wonder if Cal might be feeling a little bit pissed off that he wasn't a consideration for the All Star team. He's done some serious damage since the rosters were announced.

He's the guy that said coming out of spring training that they were tired of hearing how the pitching staff is carrying the team....

Then he's hit sub .210 the whole year.

He's an outstanding defensive catcher calling games, throwing out guys trying to steal second.

Comes in clutch and hits homers in spells.

Still shouldn't ever be on an all star team hitting under .210, even as a catcher. And yes, with his latest heater he's up around .215 or so, but that's still too low.

I would have said the same thing even last year. But there has been a noticeable dropoff in above-average hitters this year in both leagues.
Among AL catchers Raleigh is:
homeruns - 1st
RBI - tied for first
WAR - 2nd
OPS - 4th
Adley Rutschman clearly deserves to be the starter but Cal, despite his BA, is the second-best option in the AL.

WAR leaders among AL Catchers:
Rutschman - 3.1
Raleigh - 2.6
O'Hoppe - 2.3
Perez - 1.8
Heim - 1.2

And the other four get far more games at DH than Cal does.

ESPN's Halfway Point Grade

Seattle Mariners: C+

It has been a roller coaster of these first three-plus months for the Mariners. Bottom line: They're in first place, so things could be much worse. On the other hand, they've nearly blown a 10-game lead ... in less than a month. In the division era (since 1969), only seven teams have blown a 10-game division lead. Besides the blown lead, this offense is unwatchable. The Mariners' self-stated goal this offseason was to cut down on strikeouts -- well, they lead the majors in strikeouts by a mile. They just went 11 games in a row striking out at least 10 times and failing to record 10 hits in any game. Julio Rodriguez's struggles remain one of the season's biggest disappointments; he somehow had a 46-game stretch in which he hit just one double. The Mariners haven't won a division title since 2001. I'm not sure that drought ends in 2024.
