They lose tonight I see this team folding the rest of the way and I hate saying that considering the amount of chances they were given this month to take a good size division lead into the final week of the season.

The constant in our incompetence has been ownership. Firing skippers and GM's has been their "fix" for everything, and look, we're still fucking broken. Have been broken for close to 30 years under Nintendo and now First Avenue LLLP under Stanton and his goons behind the curtain.

Dipoto has done fine with accumulating a lot of pitching talent that should be paying off a lot more than it does right now. The bottom line for me is that whoever takes over for him when/if he gets fired will be left with the same big question.: Will ownership fork over the necessary $$$$ to get excellent hitters to come here.

They need to fork over more than most other orgs would to garner the interest of a marquee hitter/position player because of our ballpark, our climate for the first half of the year, our schedule, and the fact that we have owners and a FO who have proven over and over again that they don't know what the fuck they're doing. If Dipoto can't get them to fill in the gaps with more payroll, why would they hire anybody else and do it for them? Again, to me, that's our fundamental problem.

So fire Jerry and replace him sure, but only if it's somebody who will step in and keep developing the assets (mostly pitching) we have and DEMAND the ability to add pieces that can actually make the team a contender. I don't want any new GM to trade away all of our good pitching in search of bats either, and something tells me that's exactly what they'd be stuck having to do. And that usually lands us with guys who are content to wait out their contract here until they can go somewhere they actually want to be and then they go perform like perennial all stars there.

And one more problem with getting them to sign a legit free agent bat, we now will need them to sign at least two. Teo, no matter how bad he struggled at times, is a 90-100 RBI guy that most likely will walk. So first we have to replace a 90-100 RBI guy just to get back to even, then add a legit stud to help carry this thing over the goal line. And I would not argue with anyone saying we need two legit stud bats plus replace Teo when he walks.

So yes you are correct we need the ability to spend $$$, but I will argue that a good manager can adapt. There are 3 teams below us in payroll that have better records than us and one (Rays) are always better than us. So I am in the group that says we need to spend more and we need new leadership that picks the players.
