i read that edberg wasn't traveling with him next year, but didn't realize that ljubicic was now his full time coach

that's great news. ljubucic is on the fast track to be a top coach. i don't see fed winning a major again except maybe on grass, but ivan is a great addition.

but what about milos?

He fired Ljubicic back in October

FED also announced his 2016 schedule.

Only 1 clay tourney: The FO.

He played in 4 clay tourneys last year.

While I'm disappointed that he's cutting down, I understand it. I just love watching him play in any tournament.

Hopefully his rest can help him win the early rounds quicker.

His challenge has always been the later rounds, the past several years at the FO. But whatever helps him get as far as possible.

That's a big risk IMO. He should at least participate in one of the big tuneup clay tournaments.

Last year, he did Monte Carlo, Istanbul, Madrid, Rome. With 3 of the 4 (all except Istanbul) being Masters 1000s.

In 2012 - 2014, he did 2 of the 3 each of those years.

Dropping from 2-3 of those Masters 1000s, to 0 this year, is a lot.

He could go back to doing 2, or your suggestion of 1.

The high bounce on red clay exposes Fed's backhand more than any other surface, and his movement isn't what it used to be, so it's smart for him to pick that surface to cut back on.

I like his chances of beating just about anybody off of clay in majors other than Nole, so his ranking shouldn't be a huge concern of his.

The only thing missing from his resume is singles Olympic gold, and his scheduling choices cater to that. And cutting the clay season out will have little to no impact on his already miniscule chances of winning a major on grass or a hard court.

Been saying it for a couple years now that he should be doing just this. Maybe 1 clay tuneup max.

He's also missing Miami. Basically he needs to have a great run at Australia to avoid being passed by guys like Rafa and Stan heading into Wimbledon

I think he can let his ranking go now. Just concentrate on trying to win 1 last major. Rankings are for young folks.
