Who is your favorite Cowboys player - active while you were alive as a fan - on offense and defense? I'm sure if I was alike to see Staubach or Randy White play they'd be up there, but I wasn't so that disqualifies that. I was alive during the 90s dynasty, but I didn't move to Dallas until 2001 when I was 11 and didn't get into sports until a few years later. So my range is about 2006- for active Dallas sports fandom. Here's mine:

Offense: Jason Witten. Longevity, consistency, toughness (never forget the play that made the NFL change the rules so that when the helmet hit off the ball carrier the play is dead).

Defense: DeMarcus Ware. Multiple tight-race 2nd place Defensive Player of the Year, most consistently dominant defender the Cowboys have had in my life. My greatest sports moments in my life are #1 2011 Mavericks championship, #2 2005 Longhorns championship, #3 2015 Broncos championship solely because DeMarcus Ware got his long deserved ring.

funny you say that.
The Manster is my all time favorite Player.
Roger Staubach is my 2nd favorite. (or 1a. & 1b. if you will) Also takes care of top offensive & defensive players.

I know my history, but I don't know what watching them live was like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Walt Garrison.

For those hat don't remember him, he defined the third-and-short halfback for me. Never flashy, never got even five yard plays, but if you're third and goal from the two he was your guy.

Tough as nails. In the summer he did bull riding at the rodeo.

there have been many. Tony Dorsett was probably the top one ever. Charlie Waters was another.

Can't help but love someone who sets an unbreakable record. The 99 yard TD has been matched, but TD was the first to do it.
he was our last true home run threat RB. If he broke into the open field look out. Think only Darrell Green really could stop him from taking those all the way.
Right now we have Pollard with some true speed. But we will have to see if he can emulate some TD style runs.

So many great players. Randy White has got to be my favorite. He was a complete monster. Michael Irvin is right up there near the top. Irvin knew how to win and he was a great leader.. they dont win those 3 rings in the 90s without Irvin.

Staubach,Dorsett,Pearson,too tall.
The triplets, Haley,Woodson, larry Allen,Erik William's was so dominant before the car crash.

Recent players j like are Dak,Witten and the great wall ,Smith,Martin and Frederick..

Probably Woodson. Troy, Ware, Witten, Larry Allen all honorable mentions.

It's icky for an Eagles fan to claim any favorite Cowboy, but probably Staubach for me. I met him a few times at public events when I lived in Dallas and he seems like a decent guy.

In terms of current players, Dak seems like an easy guy to root for. Too bad he's never going to win anything now that he was drafted by the Cowboys.... :noidea: :D

Tier 1 Staubach & Mel Renfro
Tier 2 Emmitt & Randy White
Tier 3 Irvin & Harvey Martin

each were team first guys.

Current Favs.
Dak & to be determined with a heavy bias towards Diggs & Parsons
As an aside with your TBD for current D players, I'm really sad that Sean Lee is done. He could have been so good if not for his chronic injuryitis. HOF talent with bones like a chicken.

My current players are the same, Dak and TBD (also translated as ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

no worries. He gets to spend a little time with the Fam, & then Jerry will bring him back in as a coach. The guy had great instincts.
