The most fair way would probably be to allow people who don't want to keep any of their own players to pick a player from the scraps of other teams...in the order of record.

And, THEN

either have the draft order with those who selected from the scraps selecting first in the order of record (opposite direction than the order picked from the scraps) followed by people who kept their own players (order of worst record to best) OR randomly selected.

always someone that has to drop out. or maybe an even number of people who want in.
I think an alternate should be able to assume a team on draft night if someone is a no show and doesn't have a good list set up.

Next season is a long ways away. I'm in one at work this year and I was pretty busy with some other stuff, so didn't want to this year, but if someone does drop out next season, depending on the situation, I may be up for it. It would take the place of the work one. We started with 12, and by the end only 6 or so people cared, and the owner of the league wasn't one of them. Ridiculous.

I'll be holding on to Calvin Johnson next year.
